LIRR and infants
I have to take the LIRR next weekend with my infant. I have never been on the LIRR so I am a bit unfamiliar with their policies. Do I need to have any type of carrier or seat for my daughter or do they allow me to hold her in my arms? Thanks in advance for any help in this answering this question for me.

No carrier is required, but if you're taking a long ride, you may want one strictly for comfort reasons.

Hi NYC, I've gone on the LIRR for long trips with an infant and found putting her in a baby stroller (with or without a car seat combo) is not only the SAFEST way to transport a baby on the train but also more comfortable as the previous poster noted. I highly recommend securing babe this way, as the train makes lots of sudden jerky movements, and you can rock her and she can stare at everything. Good luck!
P.S. I realized in re-reading your OP that I did not really answer your question (i.e., does the LIRR have a policy). I am sure they allow you to hold your baby, but I bet it is not recommended.

Thank god you are going on a weekend. I love babies but during the weekday rush after work, people get very annoyed and angry when a baby starts to cry. Cranky businesspeople.

no regulations governing this... however there is a regulation on blocking movement within the train... so watch where you park the stroller
also it is usually recommended that you close the stroller - after taking the baby out - and carry both when getting on / off trains and up escalators |
