Healthcare workers on LI, any word on the Flu Vaccine?
I don't like the idea of having this untested thing rammed down our throats. Anyone hear of a way not to get it? Any exemptions? Any allergies?

Egg allergy
If you can get a note from your doctor that says you are allergic to eggs its contraindicated. Then you wont have to get the injection.
I agree, i dont think this should be mandated without further testing.

Only exemptions allowed are medical. DH just got the letter than to remain employed he needs the flu and swine shot by November 30th. THere was a huge protest in Albany yesterday about this.

Even if you have an allergy to eggs, you can get the flu-mist.

So as an MD (if you are), do you know of any way we can get out of getting this vaccine?

Got my flu shot today. I know they were protesting the mandatory H1N1 vaccine up in Albany, and I hear that there are some LI hospitals that are requiring medical documentation such as allergy testing if you claim allergy to eggs to avoid the shot. There are no exemptions for religious beliefs.
Do I agree with it? Not a chance. But I would like to remain employed, so I have no choice in the matter

To me it's just very concerning how fast and quietly they got this thing pushed into law with almost no exemptions. Very disturbing. It also happens to line up nicely with the unemployment rates, nobody can afford to lose their jobs now.

This is disgusting, nobody should be taking the Swine flu vaccine until it has been properly tested and is confirmed to be safe. It was rushed through production and I believe that even the head of the company that developed the vaccine admits that he has concerns regarding the safety.

Exactly. DH has pregnant co-workers who are quitting because they will not get the flu shot. Unfortunately we cannot afford for DH to lose his job, so he will be forced to get it. I can only hope it will be recalled by Nov 30th and he will have dodged the bullet.
