Crooks, if Huntington's too far to commute, so is Babylon...
I love both, but the commute's pretty much the same as far as time is concerned.

Maybe so.

But you can walk to the rail in Babylon Village and I think they had pretty good express to Jamaica if youre doing the Hunters Point thing.

True you can walk (did that once when I lived there, 2 miles in a snow storm, many years ago ) but Hunters Point is a not a very frequent connection. At night only one express - the 4.44 to Babylon, takes 1 hr.
Any time you have to change at Jamaica, you risk delays...

New Hyde Park can be geographically quite confusing because the majority of places that have a "New Hyde Park, NY 11040" mailing address (3,339 acres) are not in the Village of New Hyde Park (531 acres).

Places that have a "New Hyde Park, NY 11040" mailing address that are not in the Village of New Hyde Park are in the Village of Lake Success, the Hamlet of Manhasset, the Village of North Hills, the Hamlet of Manhasset Hills, the Hamlet of North New Hyde Park, the Hamlet of Herricks and the Hamlet of Garden City Park.

Garden City Park, too, can be geographically very confusing as Garden City Park is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Garden City Park have a "New Hyde Park, NY 11040" mailing address.

East Meadow, Franklin Square and Levittown do not have their own train stations. You would have to go to a neighbouring place that has a train station.

I used to take the express to Jamiaca from Babylon(30 min)
Then the Express E to Lex....not bad at all

I imagine with all that express Jamaica svc it shouldnt be too hard to catch a line to Hunters Point.

I cant tell if OP is looking for a cheap alternative to Brooklyn or more of a change of lifestyle.

Either way Id keep Babylon as an option.

Your not gonna find much in Garden city for under 450k unless your talking about a condo. We have an hour commute to the city from massapequa park and love it here. Most towns that are within 35/40 min commute are pretty pricey, so you may want to deal with the commute to get a decent house
