Default Canadians who have moved to Long Island?

Are there any Canadians who have moved to Long Island and are willing to offer advice? We are relocating in July and are starting to look for a home or rental. Will need to be within 30 minute drive/train to Syosett (job is there). We have 3 kids who love soccer and are good students.

Currently looking around Huntington and Old Bethpage. Any advice on rent/buy? Recommendations on Banks?

Thanks in advance!

I have know of 2 couples, they were nice people but didnt like the way people talked got into arguements.
In both cases they would scold and call everbody on the block "racists" complain about health care. They both moved back to Canada.

You have to understand if you ask a real New Yorkers an opinion you'l get an honest reply. Apparently in Canada you can be jailed for hate speech even if you say something that is true. If you easily offended or a super liberal you may not want to consider any of the NYC area.
Bethpage has a lot of the old Queens Italians, they tell it like it is

No. The Canadian hate crime law is pretty specific. It works like the obscenity laws in the US.

1) You have to make the statements using the public airwaves (radio, TV, newspaper adverts, billboards, mass distribution of fliers). Private conversations cannot be prosecuted.

2) The statements have to be genocidal. You have to use speech that calls for the death of a group of people based on an innate characteristic (race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation). "Muslims are a cancer and have to be eliminated" or "God's Word says gays should be put to death and if you are a good Christian you do as God says" would be examples of hate speech.

3) There are numerous exceptions including protections for giving an opinion based on a religious text (quoting Leviticus death penalty for homosexuality) or making the statement in good faith (i.e. as part of a sermon), if it being said to show what is is (like I did above) or if the statement is true.

You can't be arrested in Canada for simply offending people.
