You can take the ferry from Bayshore or Parchogue. Ocean beach was cool- I rented there in the early 90's. I wonder what its like now?. Will have to google some info!

Joe L is totally painting an incorrect version of Fire Island. I have to wonder where he is getting this info? Just based on a few articles? It cannot be from experience as I spend every summer out there and have for many years. First of all, he keeps talking about cars and sleeping in them, etc. There are NO CARS on the island (during the summer season and there is no reason to go otherwise). Joe - when is it you have not been allowed to sleep out there in your car considering you wont have one since you go over by boat or ferry?

true. Last I remember no one could bring cars over there- unless its police or fire- they may have changed it though.

No it hasnt been changed; I spend every summer out there renting a few houses and make a few trips throughout the off season as well.

iloveny...tell us about your time there, please. I've wanted to go there for YEARS, but my wife gets bad motion sickness and is scared to go.
It seems like such a great place.

There are so many great things to say about FI. It is a total get away, you feel like you have actually gone on a real vacation, even for just a weekend. There are about 18 towns there, only two are gay sections, which are not close to Ocean Beach at all.
Ocean Beach is the only town with many shops, restaurants, markets. Other towns have maybe one market, one restaurant and some have nothing but houses. Everything is in walking distance, no cars. You will find everyone to be very friendly. Its easy to take a day trip, if your wife gets sea sick, well the ferry is so large, I dont see that happening. They go very slow across the bay. Maybe she can take something for that? But i have never heard of anyone being sea sick from the ferry.
Many people just take day trips over to see what its like. You can go to the beach, eat outdoors on the bay side and so much more.
Hope this helps!

Sounds great. I'm sure there are hotels/motels/inns, right? Must be expensive in the summer, though.
Are you in Ocean Beach?

Is it true that the beaches in FI are all nude beaches? I want to go there with my family in the Summer, but I do not want to go to a nude beach.
BTW, have anyone been to Jones Beach? How is it there? I live in south Bronx, how do I get to Jones Beach and FI?
