I'm gonna try and check with mynassauproperty and see if I can find one, but I think Walter may be right and there might be some other way that kid is attending GC schools, like using a relative/friend's address...

5 minutes later...

You were right! Even the mighty Walter Greenspan makes mistakes sometimes. There are 3 houses on Vanata Court and 1 on Boylston Street that are within the Village of Hempstead and zoned for Garden City SD. Shockingly enough, the identical homes on the Hempstead SD side of Vanata Court are appraised at $300k less on average.

Conversely, there are also several homes near the intersection of Terrace Avenue and Brompton Lane (near Garden City South) which are in the Village of Garden City but zoned for Franklin Square SD.

Another quirk - north of the LIRR Main Line there is a stretch of industrial buildings and a pair of homes on Atlantic Avenue that have a New Hyde Park, NY 11040 mailing addres but are in both the Village of Garden City and the GC SD.

You are forgetting about the north-side of old country road in Mineola also!

There are a few houses with Mineola zip codes on the north side of old country near the intersection of the Herricks' Rd. L.I.R.R. trestle that attend Garden City schools also.

As a matter of fact there are a few houses north of old country Rd. on intersecting side streets that attend Garden city schools as well!

It is a mess! Mineola school kids have to walk in front of Garden city school kids while boarding the school bus to there respective school districts!

Good call, Dee....I just checked it out....

All the homes that front Old Country Road between 8th and 13th Avenues in Mineola (village and ZIP code) are in the Garden City SD, as well as a few homes directly north of them, depending on lot sizes.

Do a portion of the real estate taxes on the homes that are outside of GC but where the kids attend GC schools go toward GC school tax?

Quick answer: yes.

Property taxes are levied separately by the county, town and village, if in a village, and also by the school district, library district, fire district, and, in some cases, by the water district.

The county and town each levies several property taxes in addition to their general fund property tax.

In certain hamlets in the county, there may be more than 20 separate property taxes levied on an individual property.
