Look in either Sea Cliff (in North Hempstead), Long Beach (its own city) or Huntington ( in Suffolk).
Those are fairly liberal towns. Don't bother with the Town of Hempstead. They are the one strong republican stronghold left on Long Island and it seems like it's gonna stay that way.

So if hispanics supposedly make up only 18.85% of the total population, but make up 58% of the school district, that means johninwestbury is right and there are tons of illegal aliens there!!! That's amazing!

I would suggest Huntington, if the LIRR from that station is not too much. Walt Whitman High School's ethnic breakdown is White65.9%Black12.8%Hispanic16.8%Asian/Pacific Islander4.5%
Which by LI standards is fairly diverse, while the school itself is a strong performer. It is also a very Democratic area.
Good luck in your search.

Eh, maybe, maybe not. Keep in mind those stats come from 2000, it has gotten more diverse since then, also New Cassel (which was 41% Hispanic in the 2000 census) is in the Westbury school district.

I think the OP should stay in NJ. Unfortunately I dont think a diverse, liberal, and safe community even exists on LI. They do in NJ, but Long Island is much more segregated. You have lily white areas like Garden City, East Hills, Plainview, etc, but most of the non-white population lives in ghettos. There's a few exceptions to this, such as part of Westbury north of the parkway but in Westbury USFD that has a large black upper middle class population, but in general LI is much more segregated. In some ways I think it has gotten more segregated over the years, as many commuties get whiter and richer while other communities suffer from steering, this is happening alot with the illegal immigrants getting steered into sections of Westbury, Hempstead, Freeport, etc.
Your quality of life will be better remaining in NJ, you're not that far from Long Island so you can always visit. The closest communities to what you're describing would be Westbury or Hicksville in Nassau (portions of town tho are overrun with illegals) and Stony Brook/Setauket area in Suffolk. The latter is pricier though and further from the city.

Looking at precinct level data Obama won all seven precincts in East Hills. Six of the seven were by double digits (the one that wasn't was 8.89%) four of the precincts by at least 20, three by over 30, and two by more than 40. He won East Hills overall 62.14-37.13. I do agree it isn't that diverse and is probably a bit more conservative than Roslyn (haven't had the chance to extrapolate the numbers for Roslyn, though I know Obama won easily there) but East Hills is fairly liberal.

Westbury High school serves the village of Westbury and the hamlet of New Cassel. New Cassel has a much larger hispanic population than the village of Wesbury. Also, your comment is wrong because those demographics do not represent a population pyramid. Hispanics in Westbury have more school aged children. Like many other communities the White population is much older with no school aged children. Thus they will not be represented in the School district. Go to the census website make a population pyramid and you will see a bulge for the hispanic population at the ages between 6-18. While, the white population will bulge at 50+.

I've also heard that private/parochial school use is fairly high in Westbury, which adds to it.

Or it means the white Westbury population do not use the public schools.
