I am looking to purchase a home in LI for no more than $300,000, and finding one in a nice area seems difficult. Are there many townhouse's in LI, and if so, would they be more affordable?
I am currently living in a co-op in Queens, and do not wish to ever buy another co-op or condo again because of the maintenace fee's that go along with them. I am perfectly capable of mowing a lawn, and taking care of my own property, lol.
Ideally, I would like something that has 3 bdrms/2 bthrms, but would settle for 2 bdrms/1 bthrm if in a desirable location. Any suggestions? All replies are appreciated, thanks!
Can you live out in Suffolk County? There are some good townhome communities there. Just be careful that the maintenance/HOA fees per month are not too high. As you mention about your current co-op, it may look like buying a townhome is "cheaper," but sometimes the monthly fees put on them are so high you might as well have bought a single-family home (which is way more desirable and easier to sell than apartments and townhomes) in the first place.
I don't know of any townhomes that are detached and not part of a "community" for which you don't have to pay maintenance, HOA, etc.
I actually live in a townhouse right now. I've been here for 6 years and we just sold ours. I've loved living in a townhouse because of the maintenance that is done for us. All mowing, snow removal, garbage removal is done for us. You can find a townhouse development that has lower than average maintenace fees if they don't have a pool/clubhouse etc. But also with a townhouse you give up a yard and this is one of the main reasons we are moving. If you have children or are planning on having children in the future this is something you would want to consider. With that said, you can find a nice townhouse in a nice community for about 350K to 400K....look in Wantagh, Massapequa, and Farmingdale.
Yeah...I wasn't aware new versions of that existed. The only ones I've ever seen are within gated/private communities or other clustered developments.
No they aren't being built as homes that are completely independent where once you buy it, it's yours and you fix things yourself and you live by your own rules.
They are now only being built in developments like you say where the management company can continue to collect money from the homeowners every month for maintenance, HOA, common area improvement, etc., forever.
