all he/she asked is if their kid would fit in at school, not whether middle-eastern, Spanish, or any other "race" are in the area, nor what kind of properties they own, or why people of the Asian race favor "bland brick buildings".
I thought this forum was to help people... how are all those posts "helping"? Regardless of racism, diversity, blah blah blah... still doesn't help the OP - OR answer the question!! Only MollyMe actually answered the question! I give up... I hope that sixtwo at least found the info they were looking for SOMEWHERE...

Hey, it's not racist, it's life. You think most Asian people care about White people? Please, if they did, then perhaps they would have signs in English, wouldn't have their own churches, etc. Why is it wrong for white people to want to live with white people? Every other race is "allowed" to want this, and is celebrated for it.
Sorry if you're turned off, but if you can't stand to read some opinions that may not 100% reflect yours...you must be a liberal...no sorry, you probably shouldn't look at a message board. For the most part, people are actually allowed to say what they feel, which is not the case, it seems, in America now.
Plus, if one post makes you not want to read anything else on this forum, I'm not sure this is the type of thing for you.

This is a very interesting comment...being asian indian myself and raised outside of NY for a majority of my life....mostly in southern cal (orange county to be exact) . We lived in upper class area...and I can say I have never in my life been made to feel "non-white" in my life....that is until I moved to new york. What is the fascination with race and ethncity here..whats with wondering "what you are"..I cannot tell you how many times I Have been asked "what are you?"....and I feel like saying "A successful productive member of society..and YOU are?" Dont get me wrong, being an second generation here, I am in full favor of the theory "in this country, assimilate and learn the language>" I see my own culture that lives in a bubble and doesnt want to learn the customs of living here in the US and I honestly dont relate to that, because I am born brought up here and my own folks blended in very well.
But I do think, as a mother its not a bad thing to ask if there child will fit in the school if its a majority of one race...look we all want to fit in and get along. There is absolutely NO diversity in the schools we live in now...and I worry that if we do have schools like that....its not a representation of what the "real world is like".
As far as whether the asians care for the whites...I know that I welcome diversity...what I dont welcome is the non-productive members of society that ride on coat tails of others or the government. There is nothing wrong with an honest day of hard work and respecting others.
So, I actually take offense to that slight comment...Just my honest opinion.

Yeah, I'm white, and lived in Asia for a year, a couple of years back. I have lots of Asian friends and respect their culture and whatnot, but....
Asian people in the NYC area have terrible taste when it comes to buildings and have managed to ruin many neighborhoods with these Fedders homes that they love. They are usually the ones responsible for knocking down perfectly good homes in Queens, throwing up some huge multi-family monstrosity and then packing in 6 families into one building.
The blog Queens Cr*p documents a lot of this stuff going on: http://queenscrap.blogspot.com/
Now I have seen some of multi-family homes put up in the area that are done tastefully with nice wooden doors, plenty of windows, the air conditioniers on the side of the building instead of the front, and the utility boxes not facing the street. However, this rarely occurs in Queens.

Well, perhaps if it's not racist, these comments tend to be a bit bigoted. Why? Because it's stereotyping. It's absurd to claim that "all or most" Asians are behaving in this manner.
I agree with Kitty71's comments.
*puts on flame retardant suit* ...ok, let 'em fly but I hope other posters will get the thread back on topic and specifically answer the OP's questions.
Thanks.

Wow, talk about the "pot calling the kettle black" everything seemed "fine" to you on this thread until I said something YOU didn't think agreed with the majority of the posts, which I think are racist! I guess you shouldn't look at a message board either, as someone who doesn't agree with you obviously upsets you!!

Well I am asian indian..and I have NO idea what happens in garden city...and what gets torn down and what gets put up....so if there is a racist comment that is about all asians (including oriental asians)..well that is just sad....why not throw out the trailer park white trash comment...or here is another one..why not throw out the ghetto boodie comments...and yes its a free country (at least for a while)..and people are totally inclined to have their opinions..but I hardly think the OP meant for this to be a race isue...
ComeON, the OP just asked about his/her kid for goodness sake. Maybe its different here in Dutchess County though..I dont know...not to many multi-family complexes...just a bunch of "mcmansions"..but I am sure there are those that will comment negatively on those too. Aye' ya cant win either way.
TO the OP: Good luck on whatever you decide...as long as you keep your values in the home okay, the kids should be fine....as stated..there is no diversity in the school that my kids go to, and hindsight is 20/20..if and when we choose to move, we def take this factor into consideration along with quality of the school/safety/test scores...yada yada yada.

I am curious to know what percentage of people in GC have adopted children (either asian or white adopted children)? I think that is a good question and I would love to know the answer.

Has nothing to do with the thread
The adoped Asian kids (and there parents) in Garden City dont start trouble to plow there Tudors and Victorians to put up these 9 bedroom brick and eurostucco bombshelter's.
Those kids and familys have no problem with the neighbors.
......now if you go down by the Little Neck LIRR station and ask some of people living there 50 years what they think about the 200 year old oaks cut down by new people to build these big brick ugly vile Fedders P.O.S your really gonna cry. Jeez if you think posts here are "racist" I'd love to be a fly on the wall to hear what those people will tell ya
That alone should answer the OC's question by now, what dont you understand ?
