Hotkarl,
Yeah, I drove down the Cathedral Gardens area of Hempstead (near St. Pauls) this weekend. There are some gorgeous old homes there, and many of them are rotting...literally rotting. They are beginning to resemble haunted houses.

Yup. It's sinful. The original craftsmanship and architecture is unmatched by todays construction and designs. People really gave a damn about their work back then. They literally "don't make 'em like they used to".
I'd love to own a home like those.
We're gettin a little off topic here I suppose...

Hotkarl,
Agreed. I own a home from 1926, and I can't believe how large and thick the beams are to support the house. Immense. Then the walls are constructed with a wood frame, a layer of plaster, another wood layer, and finally plaster again. They don't make em like that anymore.
Back on topic though. I read now that the police think the stabbing in GC took place IN FRONT of the house. That's even more disturbing. Apparently, a neighbor heard yelling in Spanish, there was a scuffle, and then the stabbing took place on the lawn. They are still investigating though to confirm it.
If that's the case, it's even worse than I thought. Dumping a body is one thing..but having the knife fight in front of your house is another.

It's the proximity. Whatever happened, it probabally started elsewhere and spilled over into GC. Ever notice how many "high-class" (heh heh) neighborhoods are surrounded or bordered by what many would consider "the hood".
I wonder how and why that is.
Hempstead is well documented for it's crime, and the fact that this stabbing ended up occuring across the border in GC does not shock or surprise me one bit.
If you really think about it, does crime really have any boundaries at all?
Ha, like they possibly said "whoa, we should stop chasing this guy because he just crossed over the dotted line to Garden City".
Anything that happens anywhere on this Island does not shock or surprise me at all anymore. That plot of land in the middle of nowhere Montana is getting more enticing everyday...

Because that's where the servants of the rich lived ... near their employers. Take Roslyn Heights to Roslyn for example.

The illegal aliens in Hempstead certainly didn't care about crossing the U.S. border illegally, so why should they obey the border of GC? If GC tries to fight back, they will have the street gang masquerading as a "social organization," La Raza, picket and cause trouble in GC.

Dunno. Tons of meth cookers/meth fiends and other assorted white trash there that could make your life miserable too.

Nah, it would be Grizzly Karl, but there probabally wont be any electricity or internet service out there, so if all of a sudden I disappear from the forum you know what happened to me. Well, most likely know what happened. I could be abducted by aliens in the middle of the night too, I spose that would be a good reason for me to not post anymore too, but the sure bet is that I grabbed my family and bought 20,000 acres for 7K from Erik Estrada in the middle of nowhere Montana. He swears in 20 years I might actually have a neighbor within 300 miles of me.

Um , how far could it have happened from G.C. The reason that someone gets stabbed is because no one makes a big deal about it. News for the day and then out of sight , out of mind. Years ago, people all over Long Island would be talking about this for days and consider it as shocking . Now people are getting robbed at gunpoint and killed and its like Oh we should do volunteer work and this is what happens everywhere. If this is happening, I could only imagine whats happening that is not hitting the papers. Hempstead has been unsafe for years. I remember going to my friends house years ago and being as naive as ever, walking into the bodega around the block. Well, I may have been 17 but I knew a bad area when I came across it.
