well if we're discussing silly notions such as Yankee "magic", they did manage to win a championship for two (or 20) before there was a such thing as free agency...lol.

Actually no. Yankee ownership's ego is as big as Daniel Snyder. They would fall into the trap of paying huge money for the Albert Haynesworth's of the world that destroy their cap and give them little in return.

the part about Cashman being just as bad. Cashman is a flawed GM, but Omar takes things to another level. He's simply not qualified to be running a MLB team.

Steelers are a well run team and have been for a while, but was there anything really all that impressive about the Penguins winning the lottery to get the number one pick to get Crosby..and sucking so bad they were in a position to take Malkin? And you call Yankee fans unrealistic. Bwhahahahahaha....

Yankee fans can rejoice all they want in this victory, but the rest of the country knows this title was bought and paid for. I laugh everytime a Yankee fan talks about "teamwork". None of that matters without 400 million in free agents. Let's think about it...that's almost a half a BILLION dollars.
|
of course that number is spread over EIGHT years...but why let a little logic get in the way of your silly rant?

..as if 50 million dollars per year on 3 players isn't any less absurd? Nice try though.

A-rod finally performed in the Post season and Texiera and Sabathia were actually worth the money. But how did the Yankees management get smarter than they were when they grabbed Kevin Brown and Jason Giambi and Mike Mussina and Carl Pavano? The players actually performed, but there was no "thinking" involved.
There's no thinking involved in simply out bidding everyone else on the guys who are considered the best free agents out there. Was Texiara a 2nd level free agent that the brilliant Yankee brass knew would blossom in NY? No, everyone knew he'd be the highest paid position player in the off season..that's called a "no brainer".
There's some serious cognitive dissonance going on here with Yankee fans. The Yankees simply pay free agents a lot, and grabbed the 3 highest paid free agents in the off season. 2 of them turned out to be worth it. That's not "smart" it's luck. Also, because the Yankees have so much money, they can overpay a guy like Jeter to stay around for years..he's getting paid huge money to produce numbers that guys making less than half of what he is making produce. Other teams lose home grown guys like him all the time because they get outbid by bigger teams.
|
They passed on Manny, which is something they may not have done years ago. As far as Jeter, he does make a ton of $$, and some players put up similar #'s that make less than him, however how many of them are nearly as consistent as Jeter? How many of them will be well over 3,000 hits when their careers are over and approaching 4,000 hits??

I am with you on this one Dman....
Yankees have the luxury of the market being big enough to support the team even if it has not won the World series for past 9 years. The Key here is Playoffs.... If your team makes the playoffs every year, you know that the more expensive playoff tickets and merchandise will sell.... and since your team is going to the playoffs, even the regular season tickets will sell.... in short "making the playoffs" every year will guarantee you eternal $$$$$ reserves to hire 10 A-rods and 10 Jeters to be on your team.
A lot of fans are true band-wagoners too, you have to admit.... if yankees do not make the playoffs for like 4-5 years in a row, I'm sure you will see more than a few empty seats.
It takes a little time for things to change, I am ready to bet that once salary cap is instituted in baseball, give it about 10 years (since we are comparing 27 titles in what 50-60 years ?) and you will see how its better for the game and not for a certain franchise.... I seriously feel baseball as a sport is losing popularity.
For the Yankee fans it has been great there is no denying that, because hey if my team keeps winning I am happy. But I have to admit that having the $$$$ gives you a better chance at winning the World Series. You can definitely mismanage your franchise and get away with throwing out more $$$$.

SIB
Let me see if I get your logic on the Penguins. They didn't earn their Stanley Cup because they had the number 1 draft pick and chose Sidney Crosby? You do realize the difference between this and spending a zillion dollars on free agents? LOL
Moreover, the Pirates have the number 1 pick a lot, and they can't even draft the best player because they can't afford it!! How great does that make baseball look?? It makes the sport look like a joke.
Imagine in the NFL...the Colts have the number 1 overall pick. They really want Peyton Manning badly....but they pass on him because they can't afford him. They draft an OL player instead who will get a more reasonable salary given their finances.
LOL ..this is what baseball has become!

SIB..its not worth your time arguing with disgruntled Muts fans. The only way they can feel good today is by p*ssing on the Yankees parade. Face it Mut fans...the Phillies own you and there is nothing you can do about it. Now Im just waiting for the Yanks to sign Halladay in the off season & look forward to #28.
