My son graduated less than a year ago. The school was generally very good. We live nearby, so he was also able to use their sports facilities on weekends and at night etc. Was a great school for him.

It felt like being a member of an elite club.

I'd encourage serious students to live in what used to be called "Stage 12": I think they now call it the "international quad." One gets to meet people from all over the world; one escapes from LI BONG CULTURE.

Stage 12 became Roosevelt. There is now a HUGE dorm construction project in front of it on the grassy area which seperated it from Circle Dr (Loop Rd?). I don't know whether Stage/Roosevelt is mostly foreign students anymore.

That would be a shame. It was a very special place where I met people from all over the world. It really broadened my perspective on life.

I got to live, for example, with a guy from "Red" China...the PRC...whatever, for 18 months . He made us dinner once. When he'd find a roach in his food (Stage 12 was infested), he'd just pick it up with his chopsticks and toss it and go on eating without missing a beat.

On another occasion, he happened to come back to our room while I was enjoying the favors of a young lady. He just came in and started making dinner...when one comes from a country with a billion people, one has few inhibitions about witnessing the creation of another.

Though, we did. We beat a hasty retreat to the student lounge.

The only problem I had when I went to Stony Brook is that it's largely an impersonal school when it comes to faculty-student relations. The class size is large, and most of the professors are more interested in their current research than how well their students are doing. Aside from that it has become a nice school with a good education.
