Considering a Business in Riverhead on Old COuntry Road
Hi Folks,
I was just wondering what your opinion of the area around Target (near TJ Maxx and CVS, I think) on Old Country Road in Riverhead is. I've been presented with a retail business opportunity and was wondering how the area is. I've been reading some pretty bad reviews about the place but I was wondering if maybe that section of Riverhead isn't that bad. I checked out the people who went to Target and they looked like average folks and didn't really see anything about the area that looked dangerous during my observation. Did I miss something?
Also, if I did accept the opportunity, then I would have to move my family out there. Any suggestions for a good place to live? It doesn't have to be near Riverhead. Anything within a 20 minute drive is good for us.

We shop out there regularly and were in Rocky Point.
I think most folks east of 112 head to Tanger/58 over the Smith Haven Mall.
Great retail area.
Id say check out the North Shore, Mt Sinai-Wading River for a home.
Good luck

It's the strip mall variety BTW. Very concerned about safety first and foremost. heard that there had been a massive armed robbery at the CVS on Old Country Road right next to target a year or two ago.

Yeah I agree with Crooks...we live in Sound Beach and shop in Riverhead all the time. We have annual passes to the Aquarium which is fantastic...and I played golf the other day at Indian Island (right near where your store will be). Nice area!

I'm in Ridge, its 7 minutes from my front door to Tanger. I haven't bothered going to a mall in years. I do 95% of my shopping (excluding food) in Riverhead. I'm not afraid of any place in Riverhead. I've never felt any sort of threat or lack of satefy there. I think big chain stores(like CVS) are always targeted for robberies, I don't think that reveals anything about the safety of the area.
Good luck!

Theres really nothing to be confused about.
RT 58 is the retail heart of E LI.
It attracts shoppers from the North Shore as well as the Hamptons.
Riverhead is HUGE, parts of it are pretty affluent.
(Baiting Hollow,Roanoake Landing,Aquebogue etc)
Theres one really poor area called the Greens off Drs Path and thats still better than many areas on LI.
The schools are fair.
Elemetary are OK, HS has some drama so most folks with $ send their kids to Mercy.
What are you looking for?

Basically its a business across from the Roanoake Shopping Plaza on Old Country Road. I havent seen anything that would trouble me but a few posters made comments about how the TJ Maxx across the street in the Plaza is dangerous. It's a block away from Central Suffolk Hospital. There were also a couple who mentioned growing gang activity in the area as well. I have absolutely no experience with the area other than the trips to Tanger.
