they're not that frequent. There's only two after 5:00 during the evening rush. However, it doesn't really matter because the travel times are similar to the ones that stop in Nassau. For example, the 5:59 (express to Seaford) gets into Babylon at 7:01.

I take the LIRR out of Huntington all the time, and it usually really is about an hour. Of course that doesn't include time getting to the station, but that's true of anywhere.

Word. It takes me 40 minutes to get to my station. Granted I walk, but still...

My wife (28) and I (25) just bought our first home in Seaford. We decided to buy in Seaford because our son (3) will be starting school soon and Seaford has some of the best schools on the Island. The house is just north of Merrick Rd, and there is a small park on our block and a large one 1/3 mile walk away. Lot's of nice places to eat and shop in the neighborhood.

I grew up in Port Jefferson and that's where my parents still live. We head out to see them and it generally takes about 30-35 minutes.

We've noticed a lot of younger families in the neighborhood (whew).

FWIW I make less than 75K and my wife does not work.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Very helpful! Encouraging to hear that others in a similar situation to us make it happen.

How did you get a house on $75k salary? No offense, but that seems fishy. I make more than that and I am single and I can't afford a house anywhere.

I am sure they got a nice $$$$$$ downpayment (50% or more of the home's cost) as a gift from their parents so that their mortgage is affordable on $75K or maybe they hit Pick 5 or something.

seems like you can get into Seaford for under 350k. If the taxes aren't crazy and you have a nice down payment (some people are just good at saving or maybe they made a ton of $$ from their wedding), it's certainly realistic.

I didn't even think a bank would give you a loan if you didn't make above a certain amount. The max you can get for a loan is 3x your salary...
