I think Mt. Sinai doesn't submit numbers to Newsweek or US News and World Report. They are not in the database, so they aren't ranked. IMHO it's b/c people here would then start to recognize that there is a difference between good and great. Mt. Sinai is good. It's not great. I also would not rank Miller Place above Ward Melville. I'd also say that Mt. Sinai numbers are between those two schools.

Per Newsday Mt Sinais in the top 10 based on AP /Grad % easily beating both Ward Melville and Miller Place.

Per anyone that knows the area, I would agree with you. Definitely beneath Ward Melville and slightly above Miller Place.

With that being said, Rocky Point also beats Comsewogue and that I would tend to agree with... but others may not.

Perhaps its better than its local reputaion?

I think we decided collectively that the Newsweek methodology was terrible months ago. The fact that they would put Sachem North on any list as being above average shows that we were right.

Comparing private schools to public schools would be flawed in methodology right off that bat, as private schools can decide who they admit, and public schools cannot.

Also, using the number of students taking AP tests is about the most useless stat I've ever heard of. Why not give every kid in the school the AP exam...they may get a zero or a 1, but hey, they took it!!

That's why US News and World Report ranking system is much better than Newsweek, IMHO. US News ranks on how many kids took the AP and scored a 3 or better. So, a district can't just test everyone - they have to prove results too.
