Um, that's why you have interviews. So you can hire the 22 year old who fits your needs and actually cares about starting his career.

The 30 year old with kids will tell you to f off if you ask him to work late nights / weekends. The 22 year old will not.

We're operating strictly on anecdotes here, but in my experience, it's usually the opposite.

Please walk into any Investment Bank / White Shoe Law Firm / Consulting Firm and tell me how many of their analysts do this. They sure can party, but they can also run on 4-5 hours of sleep a night. Unfortunately the body of a 30 year old can't do that.

Putting the Anal back in Analyst.

Its a joke you party animal.

This thread sucks.

NYCAnalyst,

You don't have to be 2 parents that are lawyers in order to give a tiny bit of help to your kid in an emergency situation. And, I mean emergency. I'm a big believer in being responsible for your actions. If my son was ever arrested, his ass can stay in jail overnight for all I care. Let him learn his lesson.

But, that tough love has to be mixed with some compassion. If he wants to be an artist, and that's what he loves, let him try. Maybe he'll have to work 2 waiter jobs to get by, but so be it.

In the end, I care about what kind of values and ideals my son has. If he's a good person, and not financially successful, I can live with that. If he's morally bankrupt, and a big success, I could NOT live with that.

Priorities to me are 1) Good values 2) Passion for what you do. If you attain financial/career success, then that's great. But, if the pursuit of wealth is so obsessive, that it sidetracks you from the important things in life (family, health, values, etc.), then it is destructive.
