Lake rd in greenlawn--good area? i think it's the college section
Is Lake Road in Greenlawn a good area? It is Harborfields school district but close to Huntington. It seems to be surrounded by nice homes. Please tell me all you know about this area of Greenlawn. Thanks

It's great. Part of Lake is in HF district, part in Huntington (south of Park, I believe). I think it's a lovely street. We looked at a nice ranch there, but the street was just slightly too busy for our taste. It's a bit of a thru-road, so if you have very little ones, you may not like it. It's on the western edge of the "college section" of Greenlawn (search this forum for more comments on that, as it's been discussed before). Very nice, solid, family neighborhood. I'm sure there are folks here who think it is located too close to some less desirable areas, but that's all a matter of personal taste. I have two little ones, but I would have bought a house there in a heartbeat if the right one had come up.

Oh--I'm assuming you meant Lake south of Pulaski. It is occurring to me that Lake also goes north into the Dunlop area. That part is even nicer, though I haven't really driven the whole length. I know Lake ends at Dunlop, which is a really nice neighborhood. I think that's Huntington and not Greenlawn, though...

Erawan, depending on exactly where this property is located, it may be in the the part of the Hamlet of Huntington that has a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address.
This is because only a small part of Lake Road is in the Hamlet of Greenlawn.
A map of the Hamlet of Greenlawn in the Town of Huntington, Suffolk County:
The Hamlet of Greenlawn has a different border than does the "Greenlawn, NY 11740" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Greenlawn and a place can have other than a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Greenlawn): places that have a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Greenlawn are in the Hamlet of Huntington and the Hamlet of Elwood; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Greenlawn with a "Huntington, NY 11743" mailing address.
While a much larger part of Lake Road is in the Hamlet of Huntington.
A map of the Hamlet of Huntington in the Town of Huntington, Suffolk County:
The Hamlet of Huntington has a different border than does the "Huntington, NY 11743" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Huntington, NY 11743" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Huntington and a place can have other than a "Huntington, NY 11743" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Huntington): places that have a "Huntington, NY 11743" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Huntington are in the Hamlet of West Hills, the Hamlet of Halesite, the Village of Huntington Bay, the Village of Lloyd Harbor, the Hamlet of Cold Spring Harbor, the Hamlet of Centerport, the Hamlet of Greenlawn, the Hamlet of Elwood and the Hamlet of Huntington Station; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Huntington with a "Huntington Station, NY 11746" and a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address.

Thank you all for your replies.
Walter, from the map you posted it seems the area I am asking about is in the town of Huntington but has a Greenlawn zip code and is in the Harborfield school district. Is there a reason you have pointed that out? I ask because I have no clue about this area. Thanks again.

Erawan, just in case you are not familiar with the local geography, I just wanted to make sure that you knew that neither the Hamlet of Greenlawn nor the Hamlet of Huntington, both of which are in the Town of Huntington, have the same borders as their same-named ZIP Code postal zones, and that a place can have a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Greenlawn.
http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...you-think.html may help you understand the great geographic confusions caused by non-conforming ZIP Code postal zones.
You can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) a house is actually located, which, as stated above, is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)
And, very importantly, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.

My friend lives off Lake Road in the area you are talking about (between Pulaski and Park Avenue - the "college section").
It's a nice area and Lake Road is not as busy in that location as it is on the other side of Pulaski.

Also, property sizes are larger and prices higher north of Pulaski Rd
Very nice area though, I agree!

lake rd.
I lived off Lake Rd. North of Pulaski. The mailing address was Huntington 11743.When you go south of Pulaski it turns into Greenlawn, 11740. This area is a large development of hi ranches, splits and small colonials. Both areas are very desirable areas to live. North of Pulaski the houses are bigger. (Longacre etc.), but the taxes are crazy. South of Pulaski the houses and taxes are more reasonable. Both are in the Harborfields school district which is one of the most desirable in Huntington.
