Actually it looks like its in Coram on the border of Gordon Heights and Middle Island.

Truth be told Homestead Village it is by far the worst worst worst of the worst of Brookhaven. Nothing comes close, not Stathmore Ridge, North Bellport or even the rest of Gordon Heights.
The problem is its density. What always puzzled me was the fact that the 6th pct was literally across the street from it for years as it got progressively worse. That leads me to believe that part of Coram has be earmarked as a human dumping ground by Suffolk County for felons, drug dealers and Level 3 predators and that will take generations to undo.I would avoid that area at all costs.
Go see for yourself. Spend a day in the stores on 25 and ask yourself if this is who you want for neighbors (or fellow students).
Coram really has its work cut out for it. Connie Kepert really screwed the pooch with that section 8 futureslum across form Popeis. Its a shame they didnt go with Condos. Im not against density but if you have an area thats already a dumping ground for section 8, adding more dumpsters isnt the answer to cleaning up the trash.

Homestead is horrible-agreed. Not sure why this makes Coram a bad place to live.

Fortunately Coram is large enough to avoid homestead village, unfortunately these are the people in your neighborhood,in your neighborhood in your neigh-bor-hood etc.
Now North Coram (albeit an invented town, sadly referred to by locals as "White Coram" The W Section Hmmmmm?) is a bit nicer and more in line with the lower end of Mt Sinai.
If I could get the same "shoddy construction" in 3V for about the same money and avoid the nonsense all together...I would in a heartbeat.
Just one mans opinion.

Is this true? Or just a guess. It looks like a nice place, but it's new, so that could explain it.

Advising someone to not buy in Coram because of Homestead is insane. It's quite a distance from Homestead to the W section.
I would say it's like living in 3V knowing about the aforementioned halfway houses on Boyle Road. Same neigh-bor-hood.

I guess "and don't forget the death that occurred" didn't have enough punch to it. I'll do better next time, I promise.

A map of the Hamlet of Coram in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County:
The Hamlet of Coram has a different border than does the "Coram, NY 11727" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Coram, NY 11727" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Coram and a place can have other than a "Coram, NY 11727" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Coram): places that have a "Coram, NY 11727" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Coram are in the Hamlet of Middle Island, the Hamlet of Gordon Heights, the Hamlet of Medford and the Hamlet of Selden; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Coram with a "Selden, NY 11784", "Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776" and "Middle Island, NY 11953" mailing address.
