Generally speaking plates being stolen from vehicles isn't the problem. The problem stems from taking expired plates or plates that should have been turned in to DMV and putting them on unregistered/uninsured vehicles. Changing the plate design makes these illegal plates unusuable.

Pretty soon some one will come up with a way to manufacture counterfeit plates. China, perhaps? Another potential great import.

I would imagine China can produce plates cheaper than American prison labor. That's pretty sad.

I was going to post this last night. I actually like the new plates, they remind me of old school NY plates. What a scam indeed.
An extra $10 may not seem like much but if you are retired on a fixed income or have mulitple cars in your household this can have an effect. Every penny counts when you live in NYS! As if you weren't already taxed enough.

The reason $10 may not seem like much is because it isn't.
Over the course of the year, it's 2 cents a day. Far less costly than feeding an Ethiopian child.

All kidding aside, it's just a way for our Governor by default to raise money.
At least he's not stealing from education. Oh wait, he did that already, and will be doing it again!

its funny because us tax payers pay for the prisons and the inmates get paid by us to make the plates and here we are, paying again for the plates.
can we say triple standards?

I noticed that the registration stickers NEVER stick properly and I have to keep them in place with tape or they will curl up. No matter how clean and dry the area is when I place them. When I clean off an old registration sticker, I get ALL of the previous gunk off with a razor ... extra tape, old pieces of the sticker, failed gum from the sticker ... all of it. I clean it with window cleaner. I let the area dry thoroughly. I attach them perfectly according to their instructions and they still won't stick.
It's their design or manufacturing flaw, not our fault.
If they are charging more now, they better get the registration stickers right this time.
|
I don't bother trying to stick them anymore. I just get the new one, remove the old one and anything left over and just tape it to the windshield. Funny, scotch tape can last a lot longer than the sticky stuff they put on the stickers.
