Some of you people don't know satire when you see it.

I was posting pics along to Ronkonkomoan's descriptions of rural Kentucky.

Notice he is not complaining, but laughing along.
And I'm still laughing! Although some of the pics were familiar (I think I know some of those people....) seeing them set to my words.....bravo!

And I just want you to know that the time and effort that you put into assembling that, did not go unappreciated!

See that's the double standard you talk about...you could post Redneck Rivera pictures but G-D forbid I or anyone else that left the Island, post a pic of their home or their surrounding area you go nuts
You tell me why anyone went nuts when you posted pics of your 36700 SF home in VA. I'm not saying a word. It's like you are begging me to drag up old history. Just don't. Let's put it to rest.

BTW, I did not cry me a river when the Nassau and Suffolk State of Mind videos were posted.

You may not believe this, but I have actually been off LI and to the south and eastern seaboard. I have been to:

Maryland
Virginia
Tennessee
North Carolina
South Carolina
Georgia
Alabama
Florida
Lousiana
Mississippi
Texas

I will honestly say I have NEVER run across any characters, yards, pets, contraptions, homes, vehicles, etc., as extreme as the ones in those pictures and I do not believe the South is chock full of rednecks. Okay? It is SATIRE. Read the captions and look at the pics again.

PS: Although I posted a pic of an armadillo on a barbecue ... I do know that they don't live in Kentucky.

PPS: Do you really think all rednecks are poor? I don't think so. Sure you can find them wearing no shoes to Wal-Mart but it's because they like to do that, not because they can't afford shoes. They may not be wearing shoes, but they will have a cart with hundreds of dollars worth of stuff. They don't need anyone's pity.

ASSuming a lot aren't you:

Maryland (Bethesda to visit expat NY'er relative, Ocean City for weekend getaways)
Virginia (husband got masters degree in Charlottesville; went for long weekend to get together with his fraternity brothers)
Tennessee (Dollywood, Graceland, Grand Ole Opry)
North Carolina (to visit expats from NY)
South Carolina (Charleston for vacation, also visited old family homestead and graveyard quite a few times in a small town not too far from there you've never heard of ... yes I actually have southern roots on one side dating back to the early 1600s in America; first in Virginia, then North Carolina, then South Carolina)
Georgia (sister went to college there; visited her and her roommate's family a few times)
Alabama (have relatives there; southerners not originally from AL)
Florida (have relatives there; both NY expats and southerners on both coasts)
Lousiana (New Orleans, St. Francisville for sightseeing, weddings, parties)
Mississippi (Biloxi for casinos before Katrina)
Texas (Houston, Lubbock, Midland to visit friends and relatives; southerners)

LongIslandCitizen is a big boy and doesn't need a mommy to defend him. He's near and dear to my heart for the sole twisted reason that he is the only one on C-D who can insult me and make me laugh at the same time! His jab at me fell far short of the wickedly funny insults I am used to from him and I expressed my extreme displeasure at the lameness of his insult.

Ooh sorry I frighten you, you poor dear! What should I have been doing as a more respectable pasttime?

Yes, but not many. And not the traditional "white trash" ones that people sneer at.

I only know of one in Nassau. It's in Syosset and has/had middle-class families. I heard the land it is on has been/or is being sold, so it may actually be gone by now.

There are some in Suffolk County and the vast majority of them are for people over 55. (On LI apparently it's "okay" to have affordable housing and trailer parks for seniors because the NIMBYs don't go nuts.) The only one I know about in Suffolk that is not age-regulated is in Amityville and is supposed to be ghetto, for lack of a better term.

I did like the redneck alarm though. That was funny.

I just spend 2 days on LI and all I'll say is we left skid marks on the road when we left. I won't even bother posting pictures of where I live...I let BigMike's pics do the talking
As per kayfouroh:

Please go back to the post, read the captions and look at the photos under them instead of just looking at the pics in a horrified, hostile rush!

All I can say is I implore you NOT to see any of Jeff Foxworthy's comedy routines. I don't think you would like them because he has made the study of rednecks his life's work! I am a big fan of his!
