We're in Huntington with a '55 block cesspool in the backyard that has to get pumped twice a year. We only have the one. Five adults here right now with two bathrooms and all the laundry and dishwasher going into the one pool.
We've been told that in Huntington you have to put new cesspools in the front yard, which for us means all the piping inside and outside has to get rerouted to the front now! Plus, we have to dig deeper because the front yard is higher than the backyard. About twenty years ago we were told it might cost like $10,000 to get it done!
Is the front yard story true? I don't think they could get any equipment in the back now, houses are too close.
My next door neighbor had a partial collapse of her block pool this past winter and the guy just replaced some blocks rather than installing a new precast in the front yard. But I think she has another one in the front already. I didn't know they were allowed to do that, unless she did it on the sly.
I'm pretty sure that is correct about Huntington requiring new pools to be in the front. I'm pretty sure 2 pools is code although it has been a while since we had ours done. I can't say for certain but I do remember some type of permit or something being filed with the town.
We paid $5-6k and that included topsoil although it was really more considering I had to fix the front lawn. Of course I also fixed the landscaping bcs once they ripped everything out I figured why put back shrubs that I hated.

I am more impressed that she found someone to go into an already collapsing pool to replace blocks. that was a brave man
