Default East Northport? who can tell me about it!!! (also Commack)

Today I drove thru East Northport. Went to an area where there were acre properties. It was really nice.

Can anyone tell me more about East Northport? Good and bad? The house I looked at had Commack schools, but EN zip.

Who can tell me about EN and Commack even? Thanks

Default It's all good.

East Northport is a great town to live in. The area where it's Commack schools is almost guaranteed to be good. The Commack school district has a great reputation.

The only (potential) negative is the rising cost of property taxes. But it's a religiously diverse area with great sense of community.

NYC2, good evaluation. EN/Commack are good places to live with many amenities but frightful property taxes. If that's not an issue, then go for it.

I lived in Commack 35 yrs. Moved out west 6 yrs ago and regret it. Would kill to go back but can't afford it. It is a great town. If you like fishing and boating the bluff is 10 minutes away.

If you live in EN south of Clay Pitts Road, your kids will attend SD10 (Commack).
The Commack Schools Admin Building (Hubbs) is actually in EN, just south of Clay Pitts Road.
Commack school taxes have been increasing 6-8 % a year for the past five years (before that, rate was even higher) . Yes, the schools are great, but there is tremendous waste (millions spent on new outdoor track last year, and currently the outside bleachers at the HS are being torn down and replaced with new bleachers with locker rooms under them. Why is that ? Did the old ones stop working properly . Large school additions in the past few years have included a dance studio for the beloved Cougarettes and a workout room that that puts my gym to shame. For a district of 7,000 students, 19 administrators are making over $150k, (suffolk community college has 3x as many students, and only five admins making that much) . The last school superintendent (who retired last year) came in at $354k.
Taxes on our ranch (35x24 on .5 acre) are now 9k. Most splits in my neighborhood are 11-13k ... but the budget always passes. Figure it out.
If you move to a home in the Commack SD expect more of this. It will not change as the people here are pretty blind to these issues.

my husband's younger siblings are in commack H.S. His sister is very open with me and their is a large increase in all the young kids doing drugs like heroin. They come from great homes and so do their friends but the trend is inceasing. i did a short internship at huntington hospital and the psych ward had alot of young children come in with similar problems... It was really suprising because from the outside you would never guess but knowing young people on the inside who will talk to you helps~!

East Northport an ok place to live. It biggest negative is the cost of housing. For a small house on Pulaski road is over 400,000 dollars which is crazy. In this area if your house is worth that your in the lower middle class living from paycheck to paycheck. The other negative is the renting of illegal apartments. This is having a negative effect because it is bringing in some illigal immigrants and drug dealers into the area who could not afford it before. A positive of enpt is the town area which commack does not have {it runs down Larkfield road}. The other positive is the northport school district. It was voted in the top 10 of schools in Suffolk ahead of commack. Good luck
