Wasn't there a hockey rink over there at one time? At rush hour, the traffic can get a bit sluggish heading through there...but it has been a while since I have been there at rush hour.

Yes there was a hockey rink at one time. Before that a skateboard park, Laces roller skating rink, and finally the original building was the Northport roller rink which first opened in i believe 1976-77 (give or take). It was a very small building with a skating surface of about 80'x 150'. Born and raised in npt it was always the place to go on the weekends. Thankfully some investors have ventured to put a facility back into the community for the kids as well as to put the property back to good use.
Just a thought, as far as traffic congestion during rush hr. traffic may be able to be diverted two ways, behind the deli thru to church street or parallel to the old lumber yard, behind the bar to laurel rd. This may elliviate some of the backup onto 25a

i was there when it burned down ...

and i doubt that it would affect traffic all that much... how many cars could you possibly have entering/leaving at one time? 15? 20?

SUFFOLK LIGHTNING ANNOUNCES TRYOUT DATES

UPDATE AS OF FEBRUARY 2:

Do you want to play for one of the most established, most successful and respected AAU organizations in the country? Here is how you can become part of LIGHTNING!

We will be expanding into Suffolk County with the intention of attracting both boys and girls ages 9-17 who are dedicated to the game and want to improve their skills so that they can compete at the high school and college levels. Lightning is very proud to announce that Rob Pavinelli, formerly the Boys Basketball coach at St. Dominic's High School in Oyster Bay, has accepted the position of Director of Suffolk Lightning.
In addition, SUFFOLK LIGHTNING will be based out of the brand new, state of the art multi-sport facility in Northport known as NORTHSPORT. Coach Pavinelli will be the operator of this new facility which is scheduled to open in late April, 2010. We fully expect that the combination of Coach Pavinelli and the beautiful new facility will result in Lightning Basketball being both available and convenient to the many players and coaches in Suffolk County.

Suffolk Lightning will be holding tryouts for Boys and Girls Grades 4th-9th on Saturday, February 13 at Northport High School.
Times are as follows:

Girls 4th and 5th Grade 8:00am-9:15am
Girls 6th Grade 9:15am-10:30am
Girls 7th Grade 10:30am-11:45 am
Girls 8th Grade 11:45am-1:00pm
