Compost in Manorville?
We are thinking about moving to Manorville from NJ and really like the area. We have heard that there are large compost dumps there and that the area can have quite an odor. Can anyone local elaborate?

Never heard of a compost there! My brother use to live there on the golf course there. (Pine Hills) Its a PGA course. The good thing there is the location. You are rite near west hampton, you gonna love life on eastern LI.

There are many large farms with great produce sold in Manorville. We have never seen a compost, as such. In the fall the farms have pick-your-own pumpkins and a corn maize for the kids! Did you also know the Tanger outlets are 10 minutes away as well as the Splish Splash water park? There is a game farm and a petting zoo for the kids and many golf courses in the area or close by. The car ferries to CT are located at Port Jefferson and Orient Pointe - both about a 45 minute drive from Manorville. Homes in Manorville are more affordable than those in towns closer to the city or closer to the Hamptons or even those on the north shore or south shore. 15 minutes away is the large ocean beach at Smith Point County Park on Fire Island National Seashore which is also the location for the TWA Flight 800 Memorial. Have you explored the area between Wading River Road and County Road 111 between the LIE and Sunrise? Manorville is both central and convenient to both the LIE and the Sunrise Highways. Brookhaven National Labs is close by and they offer Sunday visits July-August with scientific events for the kids and adults.

Manorville is one of my fav spots in Suffolk county. Still lots of open space, just take a drive down route 51. The pine barrens are all around.
Fortunately the land purchases from the state, county, and towns around Manorville have preserved this wonderful wooded community.

Visit www.compostalert.com
Manorville has 22 compost dumps which total almost 300,000 cubic yards...A tractor trailer holds approx. 30-40 yards...Get the picture??? These operations are on farms, but run by a COMMERCIAL composting company! Go to Home before you buy. Read the letters and articles regarding health concerns and quality of life issues.

There was and maybe still is an ongoing problem with composting and odors, not in M'ville but in East Moriches. I moved from M'ville a few yrs ago but before I moved it was a huge problem for people in that area. The place was on the Moriches Bypass. I lived many years in M'ville, raised 3 kids there before the place was developed. It was beautiful. Now, you could not pay me to come back. Beautiful homes, yes, but I prefer the rural life that is forever lost there.
