Hopefully this will create enough of an uproar that Albany will reinstate some of its cuts to the MTA. That or the Governer gets dumped in the pine barrens.

[quote=Johninwestbury;12570128]This will leave alot of people stranded. No more Greenport line either except summer weekends.
Hmmm ... interesting they are keeping service to Greenport on summer weekends. Gotta keep those city people happy.
The MTA - always putting the needs of New York City first !

Hopefully Suffolk Transit will step in and have a new route between Ronkonkoma and Riverhead (where the majority of folks are traveling in between).
Trump ought to celebrate...no more bussed in people to loiter on the boardwalk, diminishing the view of his hoity-toity clientelle.
As kids we would take the bus from Hicksville to Jones Beach - it was 15 cents then - and was a big part of our lives at time. what a shame this is eliminated to save $45000/year, (about half the yearly pension of one of their numerous "disabled" workers you see playing for free at the state golf courses every day).

I've said it a dozen times, and I'll say it again- I was the one of TWO Long Islanders who made it out to the MTA Hearing before their doomsday budget in Garden City- who spoke out FOR the cuts in response to avoiding tolls on the non MTA run bridges and payroll taxes.
We have now recieved both, and then some.
It is very true- they always put the needs of New York City residents above that of anyone else. After all- the agency started as that to benefit those living in that region. The TBTA's funds built up LI and Westchester's roads and then were STOLEN from us.
More people need to vocalize as often as the MTA is willing to hear. Vocalize for accountability, and balanced budget. When the system becomes small enough that the needs of people are not being met- Private industry can move in and create a better oiled machine.
I took a bus this weekend from Penn Station to Washington DC for .50 cents. The general fare is something like $16 dollars R/T if purchased in advance... it cost me more to LIRR R/T from Zone 7.
If that bus company can turn profit without state aid, payroll taxes, and subsidies from bridges & tunnels- so can the goddann mta.

No they can't... because the MTA has to pay civil servants/ union members a much higher salary and very expensive benefits. Government entities cannot operate efficiently because of this.
Now you'll have all these sheep on this forum complaining about the cost of things, but when the subject is broached about civil servant compensation, they have a stroke about how they earn every penny and other rhetorical nonsense.
So now we have to pay these civil servants "enough to make it on LI"... forgetting that the reason LI is so expensive in the first place is the taxes to pay these clowns!!

Actually whats needed is electrification to Medford and an Intermodal facility like Mineola that ties into Suffolk Transit and the Jitney for the East End.
Hub and Spoke is the way to go.
The old Multiplex is adjacent to the Rail and everything else over there is a junk yard.
Its really a no brainer but Im sure youll see electrification to Yaphank when Levyville hits.

um, did you ever think that the people that are bused in are the ones that work there or the kids that dont have cars that like to swim? no, I bet you didnt think of that.
