The LIRR stops at Farmingdale and the job has a little coach bus that drives us to the job. I think thats the best way. May take me a little longer but I can sleep on the RR and its alot less stress. I will also look into the Northern state parkway. I think I can take the BQE to Grand Central and switch. Both are fast but theres no trucks.
Sounds like you found the perfect solution to your situation
Fuggedaboudit. Grab hold of the steering wheel and gas pedal and make those trucks get out of your way.
Just have some aces up your sleeve when you get stopped for going 97 mph.
Actually the LIE is rather tame speed wise compared to the rest of the USA.
That's my usual driving attitude and I'm sticking with it.

If your train commute doesnt work out I would strongly suggest getting to the Northern State Pazrkway and taking that. Heading east in the morning would be a breeze.

I have worked in Manhattan for two decades, I love Melville and am glad for the slower pace. But I have been in Manhattan since high school so its old news for me now. Thansk for the great responses, keep them coming!
If you take the BQE to the end, you will be able to pick up the Grand Central near LaGuardia - the Grand Central becomes the Northern State which runs parallel to the LIE. The other alternative taking the Belt to the SSP would cause you to lose your hair - the traffic and construction on the Gowanus is horrendous. Imagine fixing that road for thirty years...and they are still working on it - what a disaster!
What commute? Since January 1, 1898, Brooklyn has been part of New York City, so if you are in Brooklyn, you're already in New York City.
Real cute but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize when I wrote NYC I meant Manhattan. I'm quite certain the OP got my point.
Thanks for your post though; after living in New York all my life I really needed your insight.
To the OP - Good luck with your new job!!!
