Hi Everyone! For those of you that live in Babylon (or near it) what are the best and worst things about it? How does it compare to Rockville Centre or Seaford? And what is the best way to commute to Downtown? Thanks!

Are you referring to Babylon Village specifically or in any community that falls within the township...?

I was talking about the areas that would fall w/in Babylon or West Babylon School districts! But I'd be willing to hear anyone's opinion on the area...as well as RVC!

Babylon Village:

Pros:
  • Quaint main street USA feel to the downtowm, no chain stores to speak of
  • LIRR express service is exceptional, parking preferences given including reserved parking spaces
  • The Village Pool is something to see. At the end of a peninsula surrounded by ocean on 3 sides. Extraordinary
  • Easy access to Overlook, Gilgo and Cedar beaches make Jones Beach or the Hamptons an afterthought
  • Driving by Argyle lake and seeing a wedding party there everyday reminds you to stop and smell the roses
  • Around Christmas and during street festivals and fairs it has a small town Norman Rockwellish vibe.
  • Can be at the Bay Shore FI Ferries or Field 5 across the RM bridge in 15 minutes
  • Trash pickup 2 times a week, 3 times if you want them to pick up from you back yard (overkill but true)
  • Town Water and Sewer
Cons:

  • There are better commutes to the city further west
  • Small lots are the norm, if you need a lot of land to be happy, look elsewhere
  • The train station has a few homeless folks that seem content to hang around and not move on
  • Expensive
  • Flat as a pancake, no hills or vistas

It's a great place! Lived there for 15 years and my children and I still remember it fondly.
