A stones throw from SUSB, not a bad ride to the Hamptons in the Summer a rail to NYC and a Ferry to CT.

Not too shabby.

Huntington is definately about as far into Suffolk as your going to want to go. We've got great Manhattan caliber restaurants, nightlife, Cinema Arts, and a vibrant performing arts scene. There are many Manhattan expats that have moved out here for work or to raise families.

Port Jeff is pretty, but I'd hardly call it cosmopolitan.

as long as the loud annoying biker masses don't drive you out of PJ.

Huntington much closer to 'urban-like' than PJ, except for commute to SBU.

but then, I'm a Huntington local...

Bingo - these meat-heads ruin a great little town.

Aint gonna get "urban" west of the dotted line. Stay in the city and take a train.
Or look into eastern Nassau if you want to shave a minute or so off the commute.

However, Bayport, Bluepoint, Sayville all have walkable Hamptonesque downtown areas and are a stones throw away from Nicholls Road.

As long as your definition of Urban Like is MS13.
; )

JK Huntington is still a very nice town (except for the schools)and Ive seen more than a few bikes in there and in Northport too.

Im from neither but IMO Port Jeff blows Huntington away these days on just about every level.
Huntington was cool when in the 80s, then again it was the Middle of the Island then too.

I do agree that Long Beach has a great vibe but itd be a bear to SBU.

PJ would be tough to beat with SBU in the equation.

You might be interested in Rockville Centre if you stick around North Village Avenue. A lot of night life compared to other towns but not as much as Huntington.

Yes, Huntington is a bit of a hike to SBU now that I think about it.

the wife and I just moved from NYC (FiDi) to Huntington Harbor. Huntington Village puts you aprox 40 minutes to SB. I would say it's your best bet for ammentities.

Lived in Poquott and Mount Sinai back in the day too. Port Jeff is a cool town, no doubt. Just always felt more like a few tourist shops than a real scene. Great place to bar hop. Great place to boat!

I do think Huntington still has better restaurants. Lots of duds in PJ.
