A post in another thread stating that crime has increased across Long Island was the impetus for this thread, soooo....

Why do you feel has crime increased on Long Island?

the heroin epidemic?
the bad economy?
the influx of illegal aliens?
not enough police officers?
the police officers aren't paid enough?
the police officers aren't doing a good job?
the politicians don't care?
LI is becoming too urban (ie population density)?

D) All of the above

But, I think the economy has the largest role currently.
Desperate times=desperate measures.

My feelings are:

Quote:
the heroin epidemic?
A big factor
Quote:
the bad economy?
crime is crime, it always occurs regardless of the economy
Quote:
the influx of illegal aliens?
Another big factor
Quote:
not enough police officers?
yet another huge factor
Quote:
the police officers aren't doing a good job?
Especially true of SCPD 3rd Pct
Quote:

More people = more crime

Also alot of the crime (especially home invasions) are committed by criminal gangs from Brooklyn and Queens.

I don't quite understand how in a bad economy, or any financial crissis, how a person can develop an expensive drug habit when they can't pay their bills.
I understand being depressed and everything because you're down on your luck, but in theory, isn't being broke a bad time to start doing drugs?

Forget about robbing and stealing to get your fix, because that's an extreme situation, but like, you aint got a couple hundred to pay LIPA, but you can somehow scrounge up enough to get an 8 ball or a buddy bag. Makes no sense.
Real smart. Sit in the dark freezing, but at least you got your smack to make everything feel alright. Nice.

Are there statistics that show 'crime' has actually gone up?
