Has anyone else noticed an increase in the fare with their Mail & Ride invoice for April? My monthly from Port Washington to Penn went up from $223 to $242. I knew the fare increases were coming, but I don't see any announcement of the actual increases on MTA's website.
I imagine this will be the new rate for me, but was just wondering if anyone else saw this. Just want to make sure it's not some odd screw-up with my pre-tax commuting contribution.
The LIRR is a bit screwed in that there is a ceiling of sorts when it comes to fare hikes. The day that fares compete with monthly parking garages in and around the city...the LIRR is going to have a big problem maintaining their customer base at the levels they have presently.
I'll give you one guess how I was able to find this information.
I stated in the OP that I knew the fare hike itself was announced. I stated that I found it surprising that the actual fare increases were not announced prior to invoicing their customers for it. I find this odd.

good point. Now that you mention it, my gas station raised their actual prices the other day and I didn't get an announcement. Reminds me of when Lou raised the price of coke and D'Nannunzio got all bent out of shape.
Time to stop showing the tickets. Just tell the small brained conductor that you have to look for it in your briefcase or purse. Let them wait...and wait...then move on...

Bad analogy. MTA's not announcing the actual price increases ahead of time inconvenienced me because I must allot pre-tax salary--on a monthly basis--towards my LIRR monthly ticket. It would have been nice to know well ahead of time what the price increases were for each zone. I'm sure MTA knew this information well in advance, but has not (and still has not) posted it to their website.

They're screwed for off-peak already. There are online parking coupons for $10-20 parking, so if I'm headed into the city with at least one additional passenger, I'm saving a bundle.
round trip, off-peak, Ronkonkoma $25.50 x 2= $51.00
park w/coupon = ~$14.00
gas (25 mpg) = ~12.00+ wear and tear.
tolls= 4.80 (if I leave the city after rush hour, I take 59th Str. or Brooklyn Bridges)
Savings over LIRR= $20.20
Savings over poor service and ill mannered riders= priceless.
Plus, I can park fairly close to the office, so there's an additional savings not having to ride the subway.

If u buy a monthly roundtrip....its less than $17 a day roundtrip. Its still much cheaper than driving.
