If you're my wife - complain and move quick.
If you're a man - aim and fire.

I have a 275 gallon tank and my contract with the oil co. has them coming once a month.

I'd say they give me just over 100 gallons per month. I usually have it at 68 during the day and 64 at night....I have a Honeywell digital thermostat that's notorious for measuring high by 2 or 3 degrees.

The usage of oil is like miles per gallon but for oil it is dependent on degree days and gallons used to determine a K factor. Look on the fill ticket for K factor. A 5 K factor means you use 1 gallon for every 5 degrees below 65 outside. If today's average temperature is 35 the 65 minus 35 equals 30 and 30 decided by 5 (K factor) is 6 meaning you used 6 gallons today. At that rate a 240 gallons used in a 275 tank would mean 40 days for next fill up. The lower the temperature in the house means less times furnace comes on and less oil used which will increase your K factor. Mine with 8 people in the house has been ad low as 3.5 and now with 3 people in the house around 7.

I have a 275-300 gallon tank with an annual contract.
During the winter they deliver once a month but in the spring-fall season its usually once or twice throughout the 3 seasons. I use very little during those times since I lean at space heaters to localize the heat opposed to heating the whole house.

I also have a very open concept home which is tough, very tough to keep warm.
I have to warm the house mid-afternoon to hopefully get it to 70+ by 8pm. Usually when no one is home I keep it around 66 or lower in the winter time but it makes it harder to warm up the house later.

Definitely not sure what I can do to improve my situation but I know I have insulation in the walls. When I touch the walls during the winter they are not freezing cold, just cool to the touch.

Overall I get about 3-4 months of 100+ gallon fill ups while the rest of the year maybe 1-2 more fill ups.

I use about 140 gallons per month but I keep the (roughly 1400 sf) house at 72F 24/7 during the heating season. I'm retired so I'm home most of the day.

And don't anyone start on me about setback thermostats and sweaters and down comforters. If I want to keep the place warm enough to walk around in jeans and a t-shirt when it's a howling blizzard outside, or sleep under a cotton blanket in February, that's my prerogative LOL
