I am torn between a steel and cast iron.... leaning towards a cast iron one.... can you guys give me your opinions please ?

i've been looking at getting one for a couple of years now... but i have a hard time pulling the trigger on $150+ for anything...

I'm with ENFD240. I've seen them in the catalogs but can't justify the expense. My fireplace is used for mood, not serious heating.

Well, its supposed to protect the back of your fireplace too.... I have used the fireplace this year about 15-20 times and I see that the back wall has a couple of black lines from strong fires close to the back.
Isn't that something to worry about ?
