Crews are working around the clock blah blah blah. So I kind of flipped out sounding like a CIA interrogation "somebody knows something"!!! So magically after that was over she said oh it looks here that your estimated time is 12:30 this afternoon.

Ok so they may not be there, or on time or whatever, by why does LIPA feel the need to stonewall and BS their customers? How can they not tell them ANYTHING?? I mean last night they wouldn't even take calls, they just disconnected you. So anyway LIPA is lying they do have estimates.
I usually dont defend LIPA but we had a major disaster, a storm the likes we haven't seen since Hurricane Gloria. There's alot of power lines and trees down and it will take awhile to clean up.
WINS is right, it will probably be until Tuesday till most have their power back.
Its even worse in Westchester and Bergen.

And here's JDawg8181 with your South Nassau update...

Here in Long Beach, I had lights flicker mostly. I went out so I did have to brave the roads but it was for a date that actually went real well, so totally worth the trek in the floods to see him, lol. Austin Blvd was completely shut down, traffic was diverted on the side streets and then over to Long Beach Road. Lights were out in Island Park and Oceanside. Intersections were CRAZY- people driving in all directions. I heard a transformer blew in Island Park. My little car was driving through flood after flood. Ended up in RVC, it was better over there, they had power. Park Avenue between Sunrise and Merrick Rd. was closed. My parents in Bellmore lost power. A fence on the side of my building was completely ripped up. The lever that opens and closes to get into my parking lot blew off.

What scares me is that this was a small "hurricane" (if you can call it that)- what will happen when the big one hits?

I lost power at around 7 PM last night. At 9 PM, the roof blew off and the rain started coming in. I also lost some fence and we had to move a car as a tree was about to fall on it. The power came back on this morning. I lost many treasured items and am just heartbroken. I now have a tarp over the roof and the insurance guy was here. It is a disaster.

I don't recall any dire weather predictions. It sounded like a nor'easter and didn't expect this to happen. It was worse than any hurricane that I can remember.

Oh and the cable is out. Did anyone else lose cable?

Yikes I'm sorry to hear about that. Best of luck to you in dealing with this nightmare.

How much more do you think you'd be paying if LIPA had on call the calling staff and repair trucks ready to put any number of customers back on line within hours following a tropical storm?

I've been out since 7 pm last night and the giant tree and power lines are still in the middle of the street. Lipa is saying we may not have power until Thursday!!! They say they have to wait for the town of Hempstead to remove the tree first. I feel like I'm camping at home.

How awful! I hope everything is brought back to normal as soon as possible. I am sorry that you lost items you treasured.

Where about do you live? Your area sounds the hardest hit.

Holy cow your roof blew off? The whole thing or just a small section??

I really don't recall hearing any bad weather predictions outside of the typical "heavy rain" - and this storm really was worse than any hurricane or Nor'easter I can remember. I was too young to remember Gloria, but I remember whatever one we had in 1991 and that wasn't anything close to the amount of destruction I saw Saturday and Sunday.

I lost my cable very early Sunday morning (2AM?) and it's still out. I'm stealing a wireless connection off one of my neighbors who must have Verizon. Pissed that I missed the first episode of The Pacific. Electricity flickered a lot but never went out, at least not while I was home.

Driving around eastern Nassau during the storm was surreal. 20ft+ pine trees in the middle of the street, live electrical wires dangling, traffic/street lights out for miles, car accidents, massive flooding - even very far inland. I started hearing constant sirens around 11AM on Saturday and they didn't stop until well into the morning hours yesterday. Wantagh and Seaford seem to have gotten the worst out of the areas I've driven through.

I expect way better service for the price I DO pay.

I am still without power. LIPA is totally dropping the ball on this one. They had 85000 people out as of noon yesterday. As of midnight last night, they still had 75000 people out.

So you are telling me LIPA could only restore 10000 people in the span of 12 hours? What the he'll were they doing all that time? My neighborhood wasn't even that badly damaged. I don't see any downed trees. We onln have 195 people out (same number for the past 24 hours). So we will probably be the LAST people to get restored.

Where is all this extra help that LIPA is advertising they are bringing in? It's all smoke and mirrors as they are TOO CHEAP to pay for it.
