I was also told by another source this:

On a roof, the decking to avoid is particle board or oriented strand board.

Can someone comment on this - what is particle and oriented strand board?

Can someone tell me if there's a way to tell if the house has balloon or platform framing? If it does have balloon framing, does that mean that I should avoid it?

Also, my friend's home has, on top of the roof framing, "tongue and groove" wood slats, followed by waterproofing felt and then the shingles at the outermost layer. Is the
"tongue and groove" method better than just using plywood on top of the roof framing?

Thank you.
Tongue and groove is fine so is plywood. Both have pros and cons but both provide a great roof deck.
