Termite Plans
Does anyone have any experience with the big guys(Terminix etc).Ive been told by someone in the business that the baiting systems are basically a scam.
Any other input on basic plan ...costs.
Anyone put in a claim against one?
We dont have Termites and we dont want to.
Thanks

I have heard the same Crooks, the baiting system just gets your neighbors termites to your house. I am also interested in finding answers.
My inspector said that you should clear the ground around the house a little to make sure you can see about 4-6 inches of the concrete to rule out some visible trails.
Some of my friends have purchased this baiting system on ebay that will kill the colony by "poisoning" a few of them and have the others eat them when they are dead..... lol. Cool concept, not sure if works though !!

I think humans have that too, it's called fast food
I don't think the systems are a scam per se, they just don't do all they claim to do.
I had termites in one of my homes, and treated them with over the counter stuff and it worked great. They hadn't actually started munching on the house just yet, but the swarms were present around the foundation and other spots on the property.
I put down some stuff following the directions on the label and it wiped them out. Totally.

I personally wouldn't bother with termite preventative maintenance, outside of maybe spraying new studs. I'll deal with termites when I have them. Not going to pay some $500 a year for bait to "attract" them to my house.

my understanding is that termites cannot be attracted, they must stumble upon the baits.
I have a bait system, about 16 baits around the house, and my guy came a couple of weeks ago and 4 of the baits were completely eaten. Luckily he prelaods the baits with the live poison, which does not repel or kill them directly, it causes them to use it as a food source to the rest of the colony, which once eaten prevents them from molting and causes the whole colony to be destroyed. that's the theory anyway. My contract is $300/year and includes monitoring the bait system and spot treatment anytime I see activity.
