The Sunrise Mall isn't all that bad... of course, I've only been there mid-week during the day. I have no idea how it is at night, although I have read about robberies in the parking lot.
North Amityville is disgusting. Of course, there are snippets of "nice" houses, but the vast majority of North Amityville is a hole.
Amityville (south of Sunrise and even moreso south of Montauk) is beautiful. It's a shame that North Amityville was destroyed --- and permitted to be destroyed ---- by the people who live there.

I wonder if Sizzler is still there. I do believe it is related to it's location in East Massapequa and close to N.Amityville which is one of the most dangerous areas on Long Island.
Hardly anyone from Massapequa actually goes to Sunrise Mall anymore as a result. I was hoping the new Westfield owners would get a different mix of stores in to get rid of the ghetto crowd (like Walt Whitman did in S.Huntington).

I love how people talk about places they probably haven't been to or heard about years ago. Green Acres mall has made vast improvements since the 80's and 90's when it was pretty bad. To be fair, let's refer to things you have actually seen and experienced and not go by hearsay. That's why these boards are turning into crap. At least, that's what I heard!

The mall is FINE. Geez talk about getting a bit carried away. I grew up in North Massapequa and my family is still there. They go to Sunrise, and I go there too when I'm in the area (which is often). It's FINE!!!! Everyone I know from Massapequa still goes to that mall.
If you haven't been there in years, you really shouldn't talk like you know it's bad. It's not.

I'm gonna check out Sunrise Mall myself then. Last time I was there it didn't look bad either, I dunno why everybody thinks the mall is bad. That would be "everybody" on other forums. I guess maybe every mall that doesn't have a Coach store is bad to them...

You know....a few years ago, a black kid threw a gigantic rock through some white lady's minivan window in the parking lot and got arrested. When questioned, he said he did it "because there's too many white people in the mall" - which I think is completely freaking hilarious, despite being racist and ignorant. THERES TOO MANY WHITE PEOPLE IN THIS MALL! I WILL REMEDY THIS SITUATION BY DEFILING THIS CAUCASIAN WOMAN'S MINIVAN, A SYMBOL OF SUBURBIA AND WHITE-NESS!
True story, I'm not making this up....it was in the news. I'm sure that one incident had a lot to do with the general opinion of the Sunrise Mall, even though it shouldn't.

I've been to the Sunrise Mall and don't find it dangerous. I just don't go there often as I don't like the selection of stores, and their Macys is tiny.
I shop at the Target on Sunrise over there all the time as well, it's a bit run down I guess, but I've never felt it's "dangerous".

Your heard that Amityville makes the Massapequa mall (Sunrise) worse than Green Acres which is near to some of the poorer parts of Queens and Brooklyn? Wow my mother works at Massapequa - I need to warn her about the "half a million" bad people living in mostly middle class Amityville!
Seriously though all 3 of the main South Shore malls have diversified crowds - and they are all pretty much decent working or middle class folks. I would say Green Acres has a large black crowd, Sunrise is mostly white with some black, and South Shore (Bayshore) is hispanic, white and black).
Personally I live in between Sunrise and South Shore and use them both.

It's funny because I always heard horrible things about the South Shore mall (Bay Shore). I heard it was overrun with gang members, people robbing people in the parking lot, etc. Well, I stayed away from it until one day I had to go there for something (I can't remember what) and went. I entered the mall, holding my daughter's hand tightly, telling her to stay close to me..... Well, there was NOTHING wrong with that mall! It was nice. It was clean. The stores were great. No gang members (that I saw). No thugs lurking around the parking lot waiting to rob people....
I guess you can either believe what other people say or go check it out for yourself and be surprised (pleasantly or otherwise).

I also live between the two malls and go to them at least once a week. I have never felt endangered in the least and I am an older person. I don't drive up to Walt Whitman all that much even though it has a Cheesecake Factory .
