Sunrise Mall was kind of unpleasant for a while. I haven't been there in ages so I don't know how it's doing under Westfield, but in the '90s it was just grungy. I don't think it was unsafe, but it wasn't a nice place to shop.

It does aim at a cheaper market than, say, Whitman or Roosevelt Field, which is why (sorry, but true) I don't shop there.

Huh - I don't know - I just moved from Amityville in 2006, and lived around the corner from Sunrise Mall, so it was "my mall". Never felt unsafe there. Has that much changed in 2 years?

Nope. The mall and the area are still fine.

wow wow wow.. Amityville is Completely harmless! yes i live in South Amityville and i have my hole life but North Amityville is Fine crack dealers? prostitutes? thats all stereotype. I went to catholic school but my younger brother goes to the public school and he loves it. And hes also doing extremely well there. the teachers care about you more in public school than in catholic school i found. People just sound so ignorant by saying they would never move to Amityville cause of the gang violence and drugs here cause its very rare that you hear about it anymore. I hear more about shootings everyday anywhere else than i do in amityville

I was there at Green Acres last month. So I qualify. DO not go there unless you want to be robbed or worse. Trust me. Sunrise mall is Great. We go to Sizzler there all the time (So yes it is still there). South Shore mall is ok, a little run down but ok. We also go to Old Country Buffet there from time to time.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Green Acres but I live in the area and go there almost weekly and don't fear getting robbed or worse. Maybe you are seeing things I'm missing but when I go (after work during the week or weekends), I've never seen anything crazy happen. Maybe you can be more specific about when you went there and what you saw to draw your conclusions.

If you would have said Amityville is not as bad as people make it out to be then you would be right. But, to say Amityville is completely harmless is not true.

Default Thanks Fluxalux

I think its funny that people will post responses in reference to the "so called dangereous" Sunrise Mall, but when I replied about my great living arrangement in North Amityville (ie my beautiful home on a large property, with an inground pool and the fact that plenty of black professionals like myself, (a doctor to be) live in the area, and feel safe), no one posted one response! I think it goes against every biased sterotype they've conjured up.

Omigawd,

There are more than "snipets" of nice homes. My home is surrounded by them. You would be quite surprised. Instead of making blank statements why don't you take a drive in the neighboorhood and see for yourself. You would be quite surprised!

I don't think Amityville is as bad as people make it out to be either. There are parts that can be sketchy or more crime, but you are right, North Amityville is not as bad as people make it out to be, and mostly it is just stereotypes..same with East Massapequa.
