I see people going in when the line is for going out and vice versa... you just wonder whether they are clueless or use it as an excuse to cut through.

See it all the time, and with not even a signal on! Drift out then back in, like it's just another lane!

OK, let me be naive again - aren't there cameras up, scattered throughout the LIE? I would think that crossing solid white lines (and without signals!) is a major fine and points off situation. I would never risk my license for something as stupid as this.

And it bears repeating, the accident that could be caused by someone swinging out of that lane onto an unsuspecting driver in the left lane doing over 60 would be deathly. Just how important is their schedule that they would risk all this? Crazy.

I understand your frustration, I do not believe there are cameras everywhere on the LIE, if there were, we would not be talking about a budget deficit, and you would not be paying any tolls on the bridges ! They do have cops parked in the medians trying to catch someone, but thats about it.

Anyway, on a lighter note.... do you wait for a rep before you post ? Or do you post and wait till you get a rep before posting again ? just kidding !!

Those cameras are for traffic only. The only way this will be stopped is if cops actually pull these guys over. However this has been going on for a long time (ever since the HOV lane was installed) and will continue to happen.

They should have just made it a 4th lane.

Did this happen just because it was the weekend or does this happen often? I tend to consider TWO solid white lines as being akin to a concrete median - i.e. you don't cross it - evah.

In a way, I am glad it happened to me in low traffic since now I know to perhaps expect it. Normally, if I was in the left lane, the only lane I would expect a car to come in front of me would be from my right (i.e. the center lane).

Anyone else notice this happening? Was I just in a high concentration of idiots - or am I the idiot for being so amazed?
Yes, I drive on 495 often. I see people crossing the solid lines repeatedly and they are breaking the law. Even though there is no HOV restriction on the weekend, a car is never to cross the solid lines at ANY time. Unfortunitly, there are way more passenger cars then police cars so few get caught in the act.

I'd like to point out that today I saw 3 more vehicles do this... I really wonder if they are just playing ignorant.
