Why?
Honestly, it's no different than carrying my keys or wallet. I never leave home without it. feels funny if I do.

Because this is NY and Bloomberg et al have decided that we'll hear nothing but bad news and that we'll equate NYC cleaning up its act somewhat to the graconian gun laws that were installed. Realistically the problem comes because generations goby where no one is a firearms owner and the only news passed on is bad news. Many people buy into the "We'll have OK corral shootouts over a traffic accident" propaganda that has been perpetuated since the first AWB was in place.
Realistically its because many of these people haven't been to many open carry places and don't understand that people just carry for their own self-protection. Having basically created a system where the only people carrying are bad guys, most people here equate guns with crime.

Well criminals aren't all that sneaky or even smart, if they were they'd likely be doing something else besides holding someone up. The problem is the average Joe has the awareness of a brick.
If I remember correctly guns are used in self defense less than 1% of the time. It's just a matter of numbers. I believe a gun was used between 8 and 11% in a violent crime (rape, simple assault, robbery) but in 70% of homicides give or take a few percentage points.

The constitution says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
How can you have an "illegal" gun?
Oh wait the constitution is an antiquated document and the 2nd amendment was actually talking about the national guard created over a century later.
You have to have a license to drive a car, right?
yea, thats it.

The government can have an arsenal powerful enough to destroy the entire planet but you better not have a shotgun.

All the knowledge they have about guns comes from TV or the newspaper.
There is some perception that guns just fire by themselves, that they fire randomly, that law abiding people turn into maniacs when they touch a gun, or that criminals are really nice people until they touch a firearm.
There is also a mistaken idea from TV that you can't miss if you use a shotgun, and firing from the hip is accurate and common.
Anyone that is opposed to guns should at least spend a little time shooting. At least some fallacies can be laid to rest.

Giving everyone a basic familiarity with firearms is part of the reason why I want to bring back conscription. Too many people have this belief that guns are scary and dangerous, when in reality it's all about the intent of the user. The overwhelming majority of firearms owners are not criminals and do not deserve to be treated as such.

I never ever met a gun that didn't like me, or threatened me or got in my face and ever acted tuff or stupid just because it wanted to, or drank and acted off and did something stupid, and i have handled many guns... i even seen many laying on a table, and they never acted all menacing like..
Or doing anything to make me feel or fear for my safety..
So the gun is and never has been at fault...
The person holding it i have had a issue with, once on the LIE when a jerk off person used a gun against it's intened use and pointed it at me....
Which didn't work since i refused to give him my car, and went to the nearest pd station...
Another time a cop pointed a gun at me, again against the guns will since i was not the murderer they thought i was, but because a simpleton was able to become a cop and jump to conclusions 1st without READING all the info thru the ncic system, him and the ENTIRE pd in NJ had me surrounded with 6 unwilling guns pointed at me against there will....
If not for a NJ trooper, i would be dead now....
Nothing wrong with the guns, it's the jackass that has it.....
And nothing you do about removing the unwilling gun will stop those people...
. Only stupid people look to blame a tool......
Seen more people killed with a cell phone than a gun...
Why not make a cell law like that of the NYC pistol law...
When will people actually use their head for something other then a hat rack ? ?

Anniversary milestones for LI police
Just found that online, just sayin!
A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
You know what amazes me. You ever notice that it's the 2nd amendment. Too many people just want to dismiss it and throw it away, but our founding fathers saw the right to be so important as to add it in before they added in such little things as the right to protection from searches and seizures, due process, trial by jury, and even the STATE'S RIGHTS.
What all the gun hating liberals don't realize is that the right to bear arms is a right to defend yourself, your family, and your property. The English looked to take away our weapons so they could enslave us and make us bend to their will. The founding fathers looked to protect a man from having to just lay over and take it because he was unable to defend himself. For example, from a gang of baseball bat wielding thugs looking to hurt your son and walking on your property.
