I wouldn't mind a Casino on Long Island, but the Lighthouse Project made the most sense and still does.

Lighthouse, new rink, some retail and commercial space all sound good. Low income housing...not so good. We don't need to increase population density in that area. Hempstead Tpke, Stewart Ave, Old Country Rd, etc. can't take it.

I think they should do the lighthouse project combined with the casino... But really this is all just a pipe dream... They're just going to leave it vacant and watch much of nassau and long island turn into a suburban wasteland bc of all these silly little nimbys...In reality they'll debate this for the next ten years and then ultimately decide on some nice strip mall anchored by a major national chain and some generic office park... That is really going to revitalize Nassau County... Long Island is such a sad place

I keep changing my mind on this whole mess. This week I say knock down the Coliseum and make all of the land a park or a small scale zoo or something that preserves a little open space. Or maybe sell it to Hofstra. The more I think about this project, the more I realize the propertry isn't really THAT big...and the surrounding area is already pretty congested.

If you want to create a "mini-city" or whatever...put the money into revitalizing Hempstead. Not a parking lot off the Meadowbrook.

A new arena should be built further east in Suffolk somewhere with a LIRR spur to that it's possible to access it without getting into your car.

SIB,

Agreed. Population density already is too much in that area. Hempstead used to be the urban hub of the island. That's what should be revitalized. Unfortunately, it would take some very tough and controversial decisions on the part of politicians to get that done.
