I read that there have been discussions regarding building a casino between Mangano and the Shinnecock Indians.

What do you think? What is the best option for this land?

Well, I liked the Lighthouse Project idea very much. Build up the area; Add jobs & services; etc... Seems like a no-brainer. I'm disappointed that there was/is so much foot-dragging. I don't see the point in leaving it as is. If there's no $$ to do anything, I guess I can understand that, but if the funds are available, let's make something happen.

I am very skeptical of the casino idea. Outside of vegas, it seems casino's make for very crappy surrounding areas. Anyone seen Atlantic City lately? ugh.. not good. I'll reserve judgment until I've seen the sales pitch though...

Me too.

Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun seem successful and respectable as far as casino/hotels go, BUT they are built in the middle of forest land, NOT in the middle of existing high density communities. That's a lot different than this plan.

They also did not give details on whether it is going to be a slot machine parlor (a larger version of what's in Yonkers) or a real casino with actual table games. If there were no table games, I would never even bother going there and a lot of others would not either.

Something along the lines of the Lighthouse seems like the best way to go.

Why not build the indoor ski mountain proposed for Calverton in Uniondale and develop the casino as well. Mom and dad can dump the kids off at the mountain while they go and gamble away the house!

Seriously: Lighthouse made the most sense.

I knew you were kidding about an indoor ski mountain, because everyone knows that the Lighthouse project site is in East Garden City ("Uniondale, NY 11553" mailing address), and not in Uniondale.

Notice how I deliberately referred to it only as "Nassau Coliseum Land" ...

OK ... I'll rephrase ... I knew you were kidding about an indoor ski mountain, because everyone knows that the Nassau Coliseum Land is in East Garden City ("Uniondale, NY 11553" mailing address), and not in Uniondale.

^^^
Calverton, LI does (or did?) have plans for an indoor ski mountain ... OBH was "suggesting" move it to the Nassau Coliseum land and combine it with the casino.
