Default Verizon Fios Trickery

If you have ordered FIOS recently from a door to door salesperson and it has not been installed yet check your E-Mail for a order confirmation and verify what you ordered is what they intend to install

I ordered Internet only service and when I checked they had me down for phone service also. I was given an order form by the salesman that showed $49.99 was the price, I asked him what the total would be with taxes and other fees and was told $55.00.

I called Verizon today and told them that I had not ordered phone service, only internet and that's the only thing checked on the orderform the salesman left me.

After some time on hold I was told that I could only order internet only service if I wanted to charge it to my credit card. I told the operator I needed to be billed on paper as it is a business expense that my employer reinburses me for after I submit the bills. I was told they could not do it that way so I said I wanted to cancel the order.

I was transfered to another dept. to cancel and was again put on hold, I again had to tell the entire story as the previous operator just transfered me and did not fill the next operator in as to why.

In the end they did cancel it and at the end of the call I asked the oprator for a confirmation #. She acted very supprised that I would have wanted a # and I wonder if the order would have been canceled if I had not asked for it.

I checked on the Verizon web site later in the day and there is no mention of a credit card only biling. What i did find is some deception, the site makes it look like combining the internet service with phone is less expensive than internet only by a few dollars. Some more investigation reveals that yes it is less expensive if you are already paying Verizon $40.00 for conventional phone service that you are going to switch to FIOS.

So in the end it is $38.00 more after you deduct the $40.00 you are already paying them, not $2.00 cheaper.

Now I know why in the Cablevision commercial the FIOS salesman has his Mom with him to keep him honest.

Wasted 3/4 of an hour on this but at least I did not get taken.

Funny. I have had fios for over a year with no inaccurate billing, a very smooth installation and a much better service than CV. I must be the only one.

No, you're not the only one. I have Verizon for all three services and couldn't be happier.

pequadude, I believe whatever horror story you have, but you are in the minority.
I was a fairly early adopter of Fios when it first came out. Did the door to door thing..guy seemed honest..but he blatantly misled on the price. We ended up paying almost $40 more a month than the advertised price (not prorated issue and not the fake $99/month deal). He falsely advertised the taxes by about $18 , the DVR $10 and the additional boxes added later on and mandatory surcharges.
All in all, it's more reliable internet than Optimum, the best or tied with Directv on picture quality, and the phone is expensive, which was also misrepresented on the charges related to that.

Go search "Fios class action" , or "Fios False advertising" , "Fios bait switch", you will get 100's of thousands of hits.
But trying to convince the masses that this happened to you, we are in a small minority, pequadude.. either it didn't happen to the reader or they didn't care that it happened. Either way, I heard they cleaned up the sales teams to stop doing this after AG's brought many class actions for this, like in NJ. I wouldn't recommend not going with them, but you won't save any money doing so,, it might even cost more than what you have now.

^^^ That link is almost exactly what they do to thousands of people. And Fios Customer service is a NIGHTMARE!!! Only open limited hours for issues like this -- be prepared to play weeks of phone-tag and spending hours upon hours on hold and going through their automated phone system fixing billing issues. See, they get you because most people are used to honest billing from Directv and CV. My bills previously from Directv were 2-3 lines total! Fios is like 20 lines of charges, taxes, surcharges, addt'l fees, BS.
