I can only assume that your neighbors are making no judgment about your wife's ethnicity but I can be reasonably certain that if a black family moved into some areas of the SouthShore they are not going to be welcomed with open arms.
Be realistic here.
I am...People are people and it doesnt matter what color they are as long as they are CIVILIZED then they are ok in my book.
Oh and BTW I live in Massapequa as well and my house is the house all the neighborhood children come to play. I guess it might have something to do with the type of people we are and not the color of our skin.
I don't know why you think I'm attacking you but I am not. I am simply saying that the South Shore is not a bastion of liberal diversity. I don't think having a wife who is half hispanic exactly makes your family stand out in the lily whiteness of Massapequa.
Thank you all for your quick responses. As for Hicksville, it's not really a consideration for us. I know there's a large Indian population but we're not really Indian, we're from Guyana (yes, Jones Town) and 5 or 6 generations removed from India.
I do have a friend who lives in Merrick by the water and they love it, loves his neighbors, heck, I love his neighbors!
My wife was born here and i grew up in England and then moved here. My wife went to Rutgers, I went to St John's, she's a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep, I'm an Accountant at a Financial Services company. In other words, we're not just off the boat, and I'm hoping we can fit in somewhere that meets most of our criteria.
We're dealing in generalities here for the most part, and as a general statement, the south shore of Nassau Cty is pretty Italian-American centric with a nod to the Irish-Americans ...

What's up BigMike, seems like your wife and I followed similar paths
RonS you will be fine. Be a good neighbor, keep your yard clean & be polite. LI is not the 60's or the back woods of Kentucky!
Well if that's all it takes, we should have no problems. We're pretty fanatical about upkeeping our house, and maintaining our yard. We're outgoing as well.
