Clarkstreet - thanks for telling me how to pronounce it! LOL I was having a hard time with that!

Nyc2rdu: Thanks for that info on the radias around Hauppauge, that helps very much as I was wondering about that. Can you get a nice size lot, say, over 80 x 125 or up to 1/2 acre over 2000 sq ft in that rental range? (3000) or less? Are there many or will this be tough to find?

Default be cautious

hauppauge has a long history of cancer in the area. a large part of that is because of hauppauge landfill that is in the center of the town. if you are willing to take the risk of cancer, that is your choice. please do some research before you make such a move.

Is there any reason why both of your posts are in reply to inquiries from almost three years ago??

I have lived in Hauppauge for the past 12 years. I have three children, 4, 5, 9. The preschools/elementary schools are great. Hauppauge is right in the center of the island, so you are 10-15 minutes from the north shore beaches (rocky long island sound) ans the south shore (great south bay-ocean side) it is very accesible as it is centrally located and near the parkways. There is a huge industrial park in part of it so the real estate taxes are lower then other neighboring areas. It is true that there are 2 towkships that Hauppauge is a part of. The Islip side is less desirable and further south than the Smithtown side. There is no village in this town but 4 malls within 20 minutes of here and great shopping and restaurants close by. The popullation is prodiminently white. Please let me know if there are any areas of info you would like to know about. We have 2 dogs and they love it here too!!!
