We are laughing about the affirmative action since the 'rents are bleeding heart liberals (hope my sister isn't reading this, LOL).
Love that comment. The bleeding hearts kill their kid's chances of getting into a top school.
Affrimative Action (AA) has got to be one of the most ridiculous concepts ever created.
For example, if a minority kid were white, he/she could get into a "B" college (there is nothing wrong with a "B" college). So because the kid is a minority he/she gets into the "A-" college.
The minority kid who could get into an "A-" college if he/she were white gets into an "A+" college.
Could someone please explain to me why pushing minority kids "up the ladder" by placing them in colleges where they will be at a competitive disadvantage is good social policy?
Cary is a nice area, just be carefull about community restrictions that dictate everything from the color of your house, type of roofing and siding to changing your own oil in the driveway.
Not all communitys have them and the areas that do look nice but if you are not used to living someware that monitors your every move you may not be happy.
I myself am looking for a home that I can fire a shotgun (not that I would ever own one) off the porch and not hit my neghbors house. Just want to be left alone to live my life the way I want to.
HA! Try Town of Hempstead for the same nonesense by another name...i.e. VARIANCE. Want a shed, pay the town, PVC fence to replace your old wood fence, pay the town. We've got our own arrogance and extortion right here. In fact we invented it.

OMG, I couldn't agree more! I'm dealing with the Town of North Hempstead right now wrapping up some loose ends to sell my house. It's worse than dealing with the DMV and IRS combined! Thankfully I started the process early and my buyer is purchasing my house with cash. I highly doubt dealing with a HOA can be any worse than dealing with the Town of North Hempstead. I now understand why people go 'postal', LOL.

My husband and I may change our minds when we eventually have kids and retire 30 years from now, but we might retire on the west coast somewhere. Depends how much money we have once we retire. We would like to live somewhere more liberal than here, and we also really like it out west. The summers aren't too hot, and the winters aren't too cold either. If we retire with a lot of money, somewhere in the San Francisco area, otherwise it would possibly be in the Seattle area.
And when we retire with LOTS of money (lol I have high expectations for myself), we want to have a second home in Guam while we're living in the west But if we stay on the east coast, we'll get a second home in Puerto Rico
We had really liked the Wellsley and Westpark developments in Cary (older developments with property before Cary became the place to live--plus, Wellsley has never been reassigned from the Davis Drive schools, which is great); however, seeing as we don't NEED to go to the triangle area, we were thinking of looking into Wilmington. It's right on the water, has the historic downtown, and you get a lot more for the money. I have heard that the schools are awful there, compared to Wake County. Looked into Cape Fear Academy, and tuition for my Kindergartener alone is a bit over $9K a year, LOL!!!

One thing to consider about Wilmington - Hurricanes. Personally, I'd rather be a bit further inland - but that's just me. I won't live on the ocean on LI either - and that's one of the reasons. The other is tourists! LOL!

With the Town you're dealing with people who are there for the paycheck and benefits who can be either sticklers or helpful. At least you have a bureaucratic chain of command to turn to if there's a problem.
Dealing with an HOA you are subjected to the personalities of the group in charge, who you will have to live amongst. Get off on the wrong foot with them and you will be labeled a problem for as long as you live there or until they all drop dead.
Pop up an illegal shed in the Town and you probably will get away with it, unless your neighbor is Mrs Kravitz or Mr Wilson. Pop up an illegal shed in the HOA and they'll be wanting your head on an HOA approved post!
OBH: I agree. My parents used to reside in Setauket and what they had to deal with was laughable. They ordered a POD to store belongings for 2 days while their floors were being stripped and the president followed the POD, in her vehicle, until she saw where it was dropped and alerted my parents as to how long it could remain on their driveway. While parked in the visitor parking area my tire had lost air. I left it for the evening and came back with my hubby the next day for him to change it...they had the vehicle towed (and there are no parking restrictions for visitor parking--length of time, assigned spots, etc). They fined my parents for putting up a FSBO sign (adjacent to the real estate agents' sale signs for other units) because a FSBO may not be on common area, although a realtor sign is allowed. Needless to say, my folks got out of there and managed to sell FSBO despite the fines, LOL.

You do realize that when hurricanes (and tropical storms) hit LI they tend to cross it on their way to New England, don't you?
Hurricane Gloria (1985) - Map of Storm Path
Going back 100 years I suggest you look up: Storm #2 & #6 (1934),Storm #4 (1938), Storm #7 (1944), Carol (1954), Diane (1955), Brenda & Donna (1960) Storm #6 (1961), Agnes (1972), Belle (1976), Gloria (1985), Bertha (1996), Floyd (1999), Hannah (2008),
It only amounts to 15 storms over 100 years, but they brought quite a lot of damage about. Thank heaven LI was as populous in 1938. The hurricane ripped right up and across LI before heading to New England and dying in VT.
And this is why the ^%^&% insurance companies are dropping LI. They're afraid of a repeat scenario the scale of an Andrew or Katrina.

Total insanity!
My friends are in 3V Club and go through so much nonsense. There's the 'in crowd' whose HOA transgressions are overlooked, and then there's the people whom the HOA has it out for.
