I personally don't reserve my appreciation for those who serve or served in our military to a couple of holidays on the calendar. I just don't understand why you would have to thank them on seperate days.
It's not that I want to thank Vets on a different day; I want the original intent of Decoration Day, now called Memorial Day, to be fulfilled: where, on this one day, all the grave sites of those who have fallen while in the Armed Services of the U.S.A. be properly decorated with, at least, a flag and, possibly, flowers.

Any day that people are thanking a Vet or decorating a grave or remembering a lost soldier is a good day no matter what it is called. I think people that choose to do so on either on Veterans or Memorial Day (or any other day) have the right idea. Thank you Walter.

That's why every weekend before Memorial Day my wife, daughter and I go to the Long Island National Cemetery and help put flags on the many grave sites. It feels good and I recommend it to everyone.
