I was wondering which companies people have used for homeowners insurance? I am quoting policies for a property (2950 sq ft) just North of Sunrise in Merrick but apparently still within distance of water that many companies are not interested in insuring the property (Utica won't do it, Nationwide won't do it, Ironshore said they aren't writing new polices in NY).

I've gotten quotes from Naragansett Bay and Berkshire Hathaway (anyone have good/bad experience with either?) and still think I can do better price-wise so I'm curious your opinions on other companies that may insure in this area.

Naragansett Bay is excellent. Great claim service.

Do you have any opinion on Traveler's, Kingston, and Berkshire Hathaway?

This is true of nationwide they won't write near the water, Ironshore no longer writing in NY, UPC Insurance writes near water but has suspended all new business for remainder of the year. Not a fan of Narragansett bay. Are you an Insurance agent?Progressive writes home owners too.I really like Kingstone.

I also received a quote from Guard. Guard and Kingstone were the most competitive.

The other companies won't go lower than 850K for my dwelling amount even though I'm not paying anywhere near that for the house. Guard and Kingstone are calculating it at 650K

I'd go with Kingstone I prefer them over Guard. The other companies that aren't going below 850K have to go by what the replacement cost is to fix and repair the house if it is damaged in a fire. Are you quoting yourself? I can help I sent you a DM call me.

Utica National. I switched my auto policy’s with them too. Not the cheapest, but competitive. I had two auto claims & couldn’t be happier with the service & payments. Well worth the customer service! You will also save a few hundred more if you “bundle” all your policies.

Allstate dropped my homeowners 12 years ago. I had policies with them for 20+ years without any claims. I was dropped because of “hurricane season”. Causing my auto insurance to increase because I wasn’t getting the “bundle” rate anymore. I am between the LIE & Sunrise. No way near the water. Now they call me a few times a year promising me the world. No thanks!

We're waterfront on the south shore and use Cabrillo Coastal (via Geico)
