You are lucky Anythng over 20 mph the speed limit is usually considered Reckless Driving and the cop could have made that charge as well. Slow down. They will give you 5 mph over but that's about all.

Look at it this way.

Let's say your journey is 60 miles. Let's say you travel 60 mph it will take you 1 hour If you travel at 80 mph you will only save 15 minutes. Is it worth it? If you travel 70 mph you will save 7 1/2 minutes if my math is correct. Is it worth it?

And if your just going to the local store, how smart is it to speed there to save a minute or two or even 5 minutes?

Slow down and thnk about what you are doing and the possible consequences, not only in money and points............ but in lives, maybe even your own!

I totally agree on not being in a hurry on local roads, but I do have to say y'all peeps in LI drive way too slow compared to the rest of the USA. And enough wih the cops. Don't pull anyone over unless they are getting waay too reckless.

State Troopers are *****holes. At least the one I dealt with the one time I got pulled over for speeding (going 70 on the NSP - everyone goes 70 on the NSP, I was just profiled for being in a sports car). This guy, I'll never forget his name, Gay C., used to shop at a computer store that I worked at in the late 90's. He went around giving everyone at the store his PBA card. Not only did he pull me over, but he proceeded to yell at me for putting my passenger's life in danger. When I asked him if he used to shop at that computer store, he denied it. I went home and found the PBA card with his name on it from 1998. Lying bastard. This was prob. 6 years ago. I did go to court and have it reduced and paid a fine, but I will never forget how I was treated by this prick. Do I sound bitter?

Yes you do. Perhaps next time you will learn to obey the speed limit.

The whole PBA get out of jail free card thing should be outlawed. I wonder how many accidents are caused by jerks who feel invulnerable because they have the stupid thing in their wallet.

Pay your ticket and slow down, you're going to kill somebody.

Just show up and look presentable. They will reduce it. Nassau plea bargains so you are lucky. My first speeding ticket was reduced to "failure to yield." The will increase the fine but reduce the points so be ready to pay a few bucks to make this happen.

Default Getting Sympathy From the Traffic Court Judge

if you do end up going to court to contest your ticket, you may find this article worth reading. It discusses how to earn sympathy from the traffic court judge.

Plead not guilty in person. Check of the little "YES" box that says "do you request a supporting deposition?" Make a photocopy of the signed, checked summons front and back. When you hand in the ticket, ask them to stamp your photocopy with their time stamp machine. This is your evidence that you handed in the ticket and requested a deposition.

Now wait. If you do not receive a deposition from the officer who gave you the ticket within 30 days you can request a dismissal. This involves writing a letter, getting it notarized and going back to court. This works about 50% of the time as some of the cops for whatever reason don't send the deposition in time.

I have the proper format of the dismissal request letters if you need them. I've done this four times and it's worked twice. And if you do receive a deposition in time then you just proceed as usual, go to court and plead to a lesser charge.

Still would be simpler to slow down.
