Visiting LA soon, how's the "June Gloom" this year? (Manhattan Beach: move, beach)

I'll be in LA from the 18th until the 30th. We're staying near the water. I'm just wondering how bad June gloom is this year.

June Gloom is at it's strongest right now. In-fact it has been really chilly [70's basin\ valley's & 60's beach side] for many days. If you want cool than it is a perfect time to visit because it won't last much longer. If you want warm beach weather than next month is better.

you may not see any sun if you plan on staying on the coast for your entire trip. right now it's 1pm and i'm less than half mile from the beach and it's pretty gloomy out right now. however, if you go inland a few miles the sun will be out, but there will still be some haze and mild temps.

It's too gloomy... thank heavens I only have to see the gloom five days a week... on the weekend I get a break and it's like being in Paradise with the beautiful blue sky.

"May Grey" & "June Gloom" are late spring\ early summer periods when the coastal clouds hug the coastline. I am not entirely sure what triggers these low clouds but I think it is mainly a product of a chilly ocean [temps in the 60's] and warmer air overhead that creates fog & clouds that form overnight and move inland. By morning the basin & even the valleys [10-20 miles inland] are overcast. That's where the saying "June gloom" comes from. It normally weakens each summer when the ocean warms enough but morning cloudiness is not uncommon anytime during the summer right alone the immediately coastline. By July most valley areas don't get much of these low clouds & the coastal areas see a lot less of it as well. It can make the air humid & somewhat moist.

Do the clouds continue throughout the day? I've read that they generally burn off in the mid afternoon.
