go to rent.com and put in addresses and locations by city or by name of housing unit

Why don't you Google each address? Usually any reviews will pop up, and then you can read what other people have said about them.

Or better yet, GOOGLE EARTH each addy and take an actual look at the street and surrounding areas! I do that all the time. My daughter did it on a triplex in LA that she found online and realized it was inexpensive because it was next door to a truck storage facility in an industrial area. There was no need to waste her time on that one!
